Re: The Bible as Astrology
I used to collect Tarot cards as a kid. Lately I've been learning more about the Bible and I am astounded with how much Biblical symbolism is associated with Tarot.

One example is The Woman (of the Apocalyspe) and her child and the tarot card #3 The Empress (Major Arcana) from the Rider Waite Deck.

From Revelation 12

12:1 A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars.
12:2 She was with child and wailed aloud in pain as she labored to give birth.
...
12:15 The serpent, however, spewed a torrent of water out of his mouth after the woman to sweep her away with the current.
12:16 But the earth helped the woman and opened its mouth and swallowed the flood that the dragon spewed out of its mouth.

Image of the Rider Waite Empress Card: [link to en.wikipedia.org]

The Empress card is always associated creation and nurturing and the figure of the woman is believed to be with a child (pregnant). What is most interesting to me is the crown of twelve thorns associated with both the image on the card and as it is written in the Biblical passage.

Re: The Bible as Astrology
I might be interested to chime in. After all, I have over 30 years studied Astrology. A fellow Astrologer here in the Southwest, well known amongst the true professionals, has been lecturing on Astrology in the Bible for over 15 years and I might get him over to join in. He and I have had many dicussions on the subject.

There numerous astrological references to site in genesis, OT/NT, Enoch, etc. Topics that go way deeper than what you might typically find here on GLP cover more than just the copy-and-paste type poster.

Re: The Bible as Astrology
I wonder what star the belt of Orion follows? Maybe one of our resident astrologists can tell us. What direction do they 'follow' this star across the sky?
 Quoting: Sandi_T

I'm a novice at star watching, but I went to a planetarium recently and have a star map for march 2012

southeast of orion is sirius, east of orion is canis minor(procyon), northeast of orion is gemini, north of orion is taurus, and nothing is directly west on the map
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 9406248

The 'wise men' supposedly came from the East. Is Orion visible in that area?

The problem is that they arrived at Herod's castle, and supposedly switched directions to go towards Bethlehem.

I really wish I knew Astrology/ astronomy better. As I understand it, there are stars that appear to 'change direction' when they reach the horizon. Maybe someone can shed light on a star that would have been appearing to 'change direction' around that time. Maybe even a planet going into a retrograde?
 Quoting: Sandi_T

Feb and march in this time(2012) it is in the southwest quadrant. I do too. I don't know if it is the same position each year or moves or what it would be thousands of years ago. I would also take into consideration birthstars that the vedics follow as well, called Nakshatra.

Don't forget the 12 tribes as well. Which really would be 13 if you counted the female sister.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 9406248

Yes. It is interesting that as we approach the end of the age, we are being given BACK the additional zodiac symbol...

The moon's cycles aren't 12 per year, but 13.

The Mary Magdelene subject is one I wish to delve into deeper, as well... there's the virgo/virgin that we've already been given all along. The 12 names of the disciples are never given, except for a few.

The virgin has always been a part of the mythos, but the Crone/mother is frequently ignored (except by catholics--except they still view her as the virgin mother, not the crone).

Let me see if I can find the crone concept astrologically, will be back with that if I find it. And I'm going to look more closely at Opheuchus.
 Quoting: Sandi_T

There is the maiden, mother, crone and then the hidden one (new moon).

Re: The Bible as Astrology
So the crone in astrology could be two different things:

Pluto (now declared a non-planet in the end of the age)

The waning moon.

Now I must look into the moon phases within the mythos.

Ophiuchus:

The serpent bearer. The man grasping the serpent's tail...

I wonder into what 'pit' serpenthis will be thrown in the age of Aquarius. The Revelation discusses the 'throwing down of the serpent' into the pit.

Serpens is opposite Orion in the sky.

Interesting note about Serpens that may speak to the "three wise men" and traveling west: It is unique among the modern constellations in being split into two non-contiguous parts, Serpens Caput (Serpent's Head) to the west and Serpens Cauda (Serpent's Tail) to the east.

Re: The Bible as Astrology
A rare Jupiter-Saturn conjunction occured at the time around the birth of "Jesus" 3 times in fact during the year he was born. This was one of the undeniable signs that he would of been born under. Buddah came also under this planetary lineup in 63 BC which also occured 40 years later when he became "enlightened". Coincidence perhaps?

Jesus is thought to be a Capricorn, born on Christmas Day Not so; xmas was in ancient times a pagan holiday to celebrate the winter solstice. The true actual birthchart is contested as to exact day, but many believe it was in the year 7 BC. Some believe he was a Pisces. the PJs give different days in August and that would make him a Leo. I agree with that.

Then there are astronomical considerations. Precession in the Age of Pisces played a huge role in symbols. For instance the christian fish symbol. Baptised by water (Pisces a water sign).

Then you have the Magi who were of course astrologer-astronomers. They were "told" of the coming and sought him out. Another story just in this topic.

Finally, some famous quotes speak to many other topics as well:

JOB 38-31--“Canst thou bind the sweet influences of the Pleiades or loose the bands of Orion?".

AMOS 5:8--"Seek him that maketh the seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into morning, and maketh day dark with night: that calleth forth the waters of the sea, and pour them out upon the face of the earth: The Lord is his name!"

Clearly, Pleiades and Orion factor into the story. That leads further to discussion on the Maya (one of the 7 sisters) long count end times prophecy.

Your right, OP, lots of huge topics. Where do you want to take this?
 Quoting: Jamesbo

I get it, I get it now!!

It has been theorized, and discussed in a documentary film often aired on American public television (PBS), that this new "star" which the magi noticed in the Sign of Pisces was actually two large and bright planets, Jupiter and Saturn, appearing in the same place in the sky three times during the year 7 B.C., which would make those two "gas giant" planets look like one bright new "star" when they formed this "conjunction" and appeared to be very close together. A conjunction is a term used in both Astronomy and Astrology to signify the appearance of two heavenly bodies at the same location in the sky. (The planets are not actually IN the same place, they just appear that way because one is passing in front of the other, when viewed from our position on planet Earth.)

This auspicious conjunction first occured at the time of the ancient New Year which corresponded with the Spring Equinox, the first day of Spring. The constellation in which the Sun was located at sunrise on this day also happened to be a different constellation than in the previous 2160 years, which marks the beginning of a new astronomical Age.

The belief that there were specifically Three wisemen likely stems from the three gifts that were given - gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Assuming each gift was independently given by each wiseman.

So nothing in the bible specifies there were three men - it is just a long, past-on assumption.

Yes, I know the three gifts theory. But I still wonder if perhaps it has more to do with an ancient understanding of the basic Astrological Story, rather than the 'three gifts' concept. Perhaps the myth writers never wrote the number because it was common knowledge in the myth.

Also, check this statement [from above link]... it may explain the whole 'lamb of god' business a little better, too...

In his book The Star of Bethlehem: The Legacy of the Magi, astronomer Michael Molnar gives a well-researched opinion that the Star of Bethlehem appeared in April of 6 B.C. when the planet Jupiter was eclipsed by the Moon in the Sign of Aries. (Keep in mind that astronomers use the Sidereal System for determining the Signs, while most modern western astrologers use the Tropical System; thus the sign Mr. Molnar calls Aries is the sign which most western astrologers would call Pisces.) His research began when his hobby of collecting ancient coins with celestial images led him to purchase a Roman coin issued in 6 B.C. which depicted the zodiac symbol for Aries, the Ram, and some images of stars. You can read some reviews of this interesting book by clicking on the link above.

Apollonius may have written the book of Revelation on the Island of Patmos.

Apollonius also wrote a book on Astrology.

It is not inconceivable that Revelation is older than the gospels which borrowed from it.

Apollonius' churches -- Mithra Churches were the early Christian Churches of Western Europe. They were designed with Astronomical and Astrological principles in mind.

Very interesting. I like your ability to put this stuff into terms that I can understand. A lot of these scientific discussions go into terminology that I can't understand.

I know there's a lot of scientific stuff embedded in Sumerian and Egyptian heiroglyphs. That may be a secondary discussion, but it's absolutely one that I'm equally fascinated by.

As far as the ark goes, it had to be something beyond an angry deity. The thing that most shows that is the guy that supposedly 'god' murdered for stumbling against it, and another who tried to catch it when it was wobbling...

Either they were murdered by an overseer of some kind (alien? knowledgable human? whatever...); or the object was such that touching it without special equipment killed you.

...the ark of the covenant was also a power source, the electronic instructions are encoded as "gods" on the Egyptian tomb walls.example red god with green clothes = magnetic iron and copper.white god with green clothes= barium sulfate and copper.weighing of the heart painting shows the "gods"above facing a Tesla coil being worshiped.the priests were called magicians because they used the pyramid as a 40 htz transmitter to synch the peoples brains with what they said.the little robot cam showed the 2 copper lines hanging from the small shaft doorway that once ran all the way down to the kings chamber where blocks of magnetic iron, copper and zinc wrer inbtween the outreaching stone "steps" and the kings tomb box for chemicals produced electricity.the metals were stripped out sometime after the empire fell..

How unfortunate for some rulers when men, women, and children continue to think... Keep repeating the lies loud enough and long enough and just maybe the people will start to believe the lies again and good luck with that...finding your energy open until mars becomes raging aries...
