this is the typical irrational argument (so-called) of an impious wretch who has zero intelligence and even less discrimination. You compare a carrot to a sentient animal like a cow? The Vedas state - as common sense dictates also: one living entity is food for another. Man has to eat; his teeth are predominantly for vegetarian cutting; with two canine teeth for those uncivilized souls who are insistent upon eating aniaml flesh. So if you have to eat and you are both pious and rational -- AS YOU PRETEND TO BE IN HOW YOU HAVE ADMITTED THAT EVEN VEGETABLES HAVE LIFE AND CONSCIOUSNESS/FEELING (a fact that will be used against you in God's court when your soul will judged for your gross acts against god's creation/his creatures) -- then you will eat only that which is the most undeveloped life forms: those which have the least developed consciousness. No sane person will equate cutting a carrot to cutting the throat of a cow or even of a dog for that matter. IN FACT, THAT IS WHY MOST MEAT EATERS WILL ONLY PURCHASE THEIR ANIMAL FLESH FROM A STORE, SO THEY DON'T HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE HORRORS OF SLAUGHTERING THE ANIMAL, SKINNING IT, ETC AND ETC. That fact alone proves the complete luncay of your carrot argument: any and every one feels no disgust in cutting a carrot or a cauliflower, but 90 % of the human population finds direct killing of animals most horrible and barbaric. Would you prefer to cut your dog's throat with the same uncaringness as you would chop up a carrot? If you answer yes then we know you are a dangerous person not fit for civilized human society!

But actually the main answer to your irrational statements is the spiritual one. The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Sri Krsna states in Bhagavad-gita that is one offers Him with love and devotion "a fruit, flower leaf or water" He will accept it; and the karma of 'killing' such vegetarian food is totally nullified. Thus devotees of the Lord engage in no killing whatsoever, because the Supreme Lord indemnifies them from any sinful reaction. The example is also given in the Vedas that if a man kill many soldiers in a war on the opposing side, that so-called killing is sanctioned by the state; and he may even come home a hero and be decorated with medals for his valor. But if the same person returns home and thinks it's all right to kill even one other citizen, he'll be hanged. One is sanctioned, the other not. So, yes, if you touch even a carrot for your own personal sense enjoyment, there will be a reaction, because being vegetarian is not necessarily spiritual. If you want to be free from bad karma in your eating and other life's activities, then they have to be dedicated to the Supreme Lord's devotional service, other wise they bind you to the world of repeated births and deaths.

But, as far as you carrot argument is concerned, only an envious soul dedicated to living a life of criminality would dare make such a patently untenable statement as to compare killing an advanced life form to cutting a vegetable. Again: ask anyone if they would cut their son's throat on the same grounds as they'd prepare a vegetable dish....
