Nope. The other day the Chicago chief of police was telling how he was overseeing the training of 12000 officers in the process of 'mass arrests' as an answer to the Chicago G8 (prior to its venue change). Now you have to bet that the NYPD and DCPD are training in such mass arrest procedures as well. Especially since OWS just recently released its spring Wallstreet occupation hectoring agenda.

Wow this needs more then just a pin. This is outrageous. Shit is getting real. Obviously something is wrong here, because they passed this too quick, without letting American citizens opposition organize. Senate is bullshit. They pass it on the basis if their own statures. The public really needs to take control NOW.

People will protest anyway. They'll also vote for the first politician who gets rid of the bill. People will be protested the high cost of fuel, the high cost of living and austerity measures. There is power in numbers. They can't throw everyone in jail.

I hope they have massive protests this year. I hope people seize land and build shelters. Squatters rights is the future because they've taken everything else.

I don't know, I think they are like any other ruling class, arrogant, unable to read and understand the real situation. just like the French ruling class in 1789.

It literally states anyone protesting or entering an area designated as restricted is a felon. Um last time I checked our taxes paid for these areas/parks/etc. We paid for it and have given them the keys. This is fucked up.

I don't mean to defend the law, only saying that it has been around awhile.

It states we can't protest where the president or anyone who is protected by the secret service (top layer of politicians) in this areas. So um it's ok to watch it on tv, because atleast that way we won't be heard. HELLO they don't give a shit obviously.

Our Supreme Court is just as treasonous as our Congress, if they don't strike down this garbage as unconstitutional. Whatever happened to checks and balances?

Thread title is over-sensational. The House passed this piece of garbage. The Senate may well never even bring it up for a vote. The Senate seems a little more resistant to stupidities like this than the House -- though not always.

"Congress passes ..." usually means "House and Senate both pass and send to the President ..." but that's not the case here.

That said, it is a very bad thing, because now the House has passed it forever, and 10 years from now the Senate could pass it and send on to whomever is then President for signature, without the House at that time even being involved.

They should require any bill to be passed by both chambers in the same session. That unfortunately is not required by the Constitution.

That would avoid also the bullshit move that was pulled to pass TARP. As you may recall the House refused to originate the bill, and the Constitution requires all spending bills to originate in the House. So the Senate pulled out some bill the House had passed years earlier, that had nothing to do with the subject of TARP, then "amended" it by removing every single word in it and inserting 400 pages of TARP language, then passed that and then it went back to the House for "reconciliation". Under special rules that apply to reconciliation, it was rammed through (the House agreed to the 100% change in content and meaning and went along with the new bill) and on to W for signature.
