So I'm thinking of becoming a Jehovah's Witnesses.
I have felt the need to go to a Church for fellowship and I have been talking to Jehovah's Witnesses.

I have heard their side of the story, can anyone give me a reason not to become one?

I have been a free agent all my life, meaning I have a personal relationship with God and have never allowed religion to interfere with that but I feel as though God wants me to find others like me.

What do you think?
It's all about slim chances but a slim chance is better than none.

You cannot come to know God on your own... you need the church.. thanks to whom God has given us his Word and his sacraments through a 2000 year preserved history of tradition and apostolic succession... dont wander on your own.. you cant love by yourself.. so in the same way you need the community of the church to know Christ fully....
DO NOT join a SECT like the Jehovah's... stick with the Holy Catholic Apostolic Church!

PEace be with you!

They have made many predictions for armagedeon which were false. They are wrong on the blood issue. They are wrong on the date for the temple.

Review their founders. Russell was a mason. Who was the fat guy after russell?? He smoked and brought liquor in from canada during prohibition.

Their version of the Bible is awful.

OP, you do not need a man to find back to your Creator, the biblical God. Actually it´s all the denominations who obscure the narrow path, the personal relationship with Source. Everybody lives by Him, the most unconscious yet.

Search God in your own life first. Which no one else can do.

They are really hard on each other. If you screw up and one of them finds out you're kicked out and no one will speak to you. They like to mind your business for you.

JWs have many false doctrines which contradict the Bible, i.e. that Jesus Christ is not God in the flesh.
The Truth About Thread: The FINAL EVENTS Of Bible Prophecy

"We here are of the conviction that the papacy is the seat of the true and real Antichrist." - Martin Luther (Aug. 18, 1520)

"While God has given ample evidence for faith, He will never remove all excuse for unbelief. All who look for hooks to hang their doubts upon will find them. And those who refuse to accept and obey God's Word until every objection has been removed, and there is no longer an opportunity for doubt, will never come to the light" (The Great Controversy, p. 527).

"Jesus did not come to change the law, but he came to explain it, and that very fact shows that it remains, for there is no need to explain that which is abrogated." - Charles Spurgeon

"Jesuit Adam Weishaupt established the modern version of the Illuminati specifically to be a front organization behind which the Jesuits could hide. After being formally abolished by Pope Clement XIV in 1773, the Jesuits used the Illuminati and other organizations to carry out their operations. Thus, the front organizations would be blamed for the trouble caused by the Jesuits."

Re: So I'm thinking of becoming a Jehovah's Witnesses.
Dont do it for GOD'S sake, Jesus, what are you thinking? What could possibly interest you in a closed-minded creepy religion like that?

I am a home health nurse. I had a patient who was a JW. I brought him a book on Chi Gung to help with his diabetes. He took one look, saw some chinese characters and images of energy around the figures, and asked me to take the book from his house.

On my way out, I noticed a huge mirror in his living room, with Chinese characters all around the perimeter. I told him that I liked his "Chinese" mirror. He said that he didn't know what the symbols were and denied that they were Chinese.

Ultimate ignorance and arrogance in that religion bro.

Look within, it's all you need.

Re: So I'm thinking of becoming a Jehovah's Witnesses.
Why not go to a Universalist/Unitarian church?

There are many reasons not to become Jehovah's Witness. You should do some research, not just decide that it "sounds good" and run off into it.

They are very cultish. After you have entered into membership, they will begin to actively and strongly "discourage" you from having non-JW friendships. This is one of their central doctrines.

You will be expected to spend all of your 'personal' time proselytizing. You are expected to evangelize frequently, hard, and with vigor and dedication. You will be pressured to pay for the brochures you are fully expected to hand out during your devotion to the cause of evangelizing.

You are not allowed to participate in holidays. They are forbidden.

You will not be expected to dress or eat certain ways, but you will be pressured to do so through a "reward system" in which the more you conform, the more privileges you gain in the church setting and in the evangelistic hierarchy.

You will be watched closely by the elders. Insufficient evangelizing will be considered a lack of dedication and assumption of joining under false pretenses. Your actions both inside and outside of church will be monitored, though indirectly through 'friendly' invitations and visits.

They will expect you to take and hold an us vrs. them stance. Noncompliance with this shows a lack of true adherence to the teachings.

They consider lying for the 'faith' to be an adherent's sacred duty.

Your interactions with family members will be considered weakness. For example, the desire to attend a wedding or funeral at a non-JW facility is thought to be weakness and lack of faith. If you were a true JW, you would see your adherence to the faith to be of far greater importance than any family function including funerals, weddings, graduations, etc.

If you decide that it's not for you and want to leave, you will be threatened that you will come under Satan's control, and of course eternal damnation is yours because you aren't a JW any longer and have "forsaken truth".

Ask God what He thinks OP. I used to be a faithful JW for many years before I finally left.

I could tell you alot of reasons not to go that route, but it's between you and the Lord.
