My family is Jehovah Witness. I was raised as one. JWs are basically not allowed to think for themselves. You are obligated to only associate with them because everyone outside of the kingdom hall are evil people. My family has hearts of gold and that can be contributed to being a JW. But they are so set in their ways, that they cant see past their own watchtowers. If you screw up, they announce it to the WHOLE congregation and no one is allowed to associate with you from that point forward. I have come to see, that you can have a GREAT relationship with god, without a cult, i mean church telling you what to believe and feel. Look inside yourself to find GOD. Church only takes you further away from having a personal relationship with god. At least, if you are a JW. Thats my 2cent.

Well I attended a bible study with them and they seem sincere in there beliefs.

They do practices what they preach, which cant be said about a lot of other religions.

But..

I did feel as though something was not right. Like a gazelle talking to a lion.

I cant get over the fact that they excommunicate someone for doing something wrong and that they have their own version of the Bible.

when you are studying with them, they LOVE BOMB you. That is how they get you to take an oath to their organization at baptisim. You have to give an oath to them before baptism, which means they now own your thoughts. Here are the vows.

Do you understand that your dedication and baptism identify you as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in association with God's spirit-directed organization?

the bible says:

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

it does not say..Gods's spirit- directed organization of man made thoughts. They are claiming themselves and their organization as the HOLY SPIRIT...thus denying the True "HOLY SPIRIT OF TRUTH".

why become anything? i hate religion...its always i read a book and became a christian... live and love life be a good person.. do great things and dont worry about the religion race for awhile.. for real.. use your mind rather then be manipulated into these "cults" i love all people..if i go to hell or purgatory that is "Gods" decision.. as i am here now on this planet i do not worry about or keep up with stupidity and manipulation.. not convicting yourself to a religion or group shows true strength

I asked a friend of mine what happens when they excommunicate someone. She said that they have to cut them out of their life's and never speak to them again or until they repent and talk to the elders.

She said that one of her best friend was excommunicated and that she was banned from talking her. Seems cold hearted to me.

Become a unitarian, at least they are for the most part not judgemental bigots.

Sounds like you're starting to see the true picture. My sister was disfellowshipped at age 16 when she was raped and became pregnant. If at any time she could have used the empathy of the church, this was it. But instead they shunned her. Too sad.

You're better off sticking to being the "free agent" and finding others like yourself. Stay out of the Churches, they will brain wash you with pure BS. Christ NEVER taught in a church...

This. I'm studying the Rosicrucians right now and feel like I have learned more in just a few weeks than in all my past years of spiritual study combined.

PERSONALLY I CANT THANK JEHOVAH ENOUGH FOR BEING CANADIAN.

I was a witness for 20 years, I left because I didn't have a deep love for it, I do not resent it or regret it. My family and my spouses family still have a very good relationship with me.

Whatever choice you make, let love be your only deciding factor. If you join any religion do not let fear or guilt have any influence on you.

I don't believe we make any bad choices if we learn from them, so if you join (get baptized, remember you are only a witness if you publicly sybolize your dedicate to Jehovah through baptism) and decide to choose a new path, you have only arrived there because of the previous choices.
