Southeast Michigan. Speed began to ramp down on Saturday March 3.

The first noticeable issue was that we were dropping video packets like crazy to our server in San Francisco and our site traffic dropped to nothing.

Second symptom was our email server (in Utah) began giving 500 error codes.

Over this entire period ITR was showing a north America rating of 70, 400 ms pings and 38% packet loss.

Now, what I did, assuming that this was related to the storms down south and east was track the issue to see where this was happening. This table is from our location in Ann Arbor to various servers.

Our benchmark is 20 mbps down, 1.75 mbps up. Our primary node is fiber optic. One of the Comcast guys when we were having problems, kicked up the db in one of the line amplifiers for us a couple of years ago, so we have excellent speeds.

Note how weird this was. Not normal at all. Upload speed kept rising!

To speed up speed down

Toledo......5.5 mbps/1.1 mbps

Chicago.....4.7 mbps/22 kbps wtf

Seattle..... .4 mbps/2 kbps

Ensenada,MX 3.5 mbps/1.1 mbps wtf

Note that the highest distance speeds were to a server in Mexico.
Reality Dysfunction has occurred. Please reboot reality.

Thank you.

Re: Internet Speed--Anyone else noticing slow speeds lately?
I have the 12Mbps DSL package with Windstream.

Before Saturday, I was flying online as always, but suddenly it was like my outgoing packets were getting buffered before they were "given permission" to go on. Incoming packet data has been higher than I've ever seen it. I honestly don't know what is going on.

I checked for viruses, spyware, malware, etc and my machine is clean. I have a Gigabit Ethernet Wireless N router that connects to my DSL modem and it has always run fine. I don't know what the hell is going on with the number of incoming packets and what seems to be a choke hold on my outgoing requests. It's like they get stuck.
 Quoting: Éireann

BTW. Forgot to say that I'm in Hill County Texas.

I ran a speed test @ speedtest.net and got the following disappointing results. I should have 12Mbps Up and 768 down, but that is not what I'm getting:

Tested from a Speedtest server in Ft. Worth:

3.99 Mbps Up
.64 Mbps Down
93 ms ping latency

Ouchies.

Don't it look like the latencies are high? Been seeing this over a month now. The debugging should get the latencies down unless the caching devices are too slow.

Kiddies... it's not about bandwidth it's about latency.
From Chicago, Seattle and Atlanta latencies are high.

But yes, the noticable slowing for the last month isn't about routers and cables and storms. Latency is when caching and recording has to be done before the next process, writing to those devices takes more time(relatively). Yes 'Big Brother' has his ears on now.

On target here and is this the service you pay for? Or, as a well trained consumer, you are just content to eat the loss?

No offense to anyone here, but do you think the multitudes are noticing it also, and will they speak up like the adept do here on glp?

In case this blip becomes a permanent communications flatline, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you, my fellow anti-conspirators, for making this site so informative, entertaining, and yes, at times, aggravating. I feel you are my virtual 'family', and while just like a biological family we don't all get along, I believe that most of us are here for the same reason -- to ferret out the truth from the lies, and to lend whatever support we can to each other, whether through handing on info, thoughts, opinions or advice. That's our common touchstone, and that's what makes us a family.

That our words may or may not be monitored by whomever doesn't really matter in the end. What matters is that we care about the truth, and that we reached out to help others know and find it.

I hope that we all take this spirit of truth-seeking and helpfulness wherever we go, under whatever circumstances we find ourselves, and to the very end of our journey.

If this site and others go down, I'll miss you, but your words of encouragement will live on in my heart.

Thank you, and God bless!

Don't worry AC417 they'll have the latency problems debugged eventually and our software won't time out anymore. The data caching/eavesdropping will be done nearly imperceptably and we'll cruise along speedily on our merry way.
Rolling out this kind of thing at the Backbone/ISP Provider level probably was not easy. But we on GLP knew it was coming eventually.
