Hi WAO...good to see you.
I've struggled with these issues all my life. My family is VERY religious (various Christian denominations) and I'm told regularly that I'm failing my children my not taking them to church. I've worked through the guilt and my husband and I are now secure in showing them through our everyday lives what we believe on issues like morality and altruism. There are a lot of very decent people who take part in various religions, but I agree that the religions themselves are, for the most part, run by greedy hypocrites and are fueled on the guilt and fear of the people. I want no part of that.

The Bible is a hard one for me. I've always believed that the texts were largely divinely inspired but that so much of the original content has been translated, edited and omitted that we'll never know what the true message was supposed to be. From time spent here and research, however, I've found that much of the New Testament (and a lot of the Old Testament, too) is indeed lifted from other ancient religions, beliefs and cultures. The similarities are too striking to conclude anything else. That said, I still think there's a lot of historical information and a lot of wisdom in the Bible's texts and for me it's worth studying if kept in context.

I'm curious, WAO: it's pretty clear that the life of Jesus as described in the New Testament closely parallels the story of Horus from ancient Egyptian texts. With that in mind, how did you come to the conclusion that Jesus was a real person? Also, do you think he was divine or sent by the divine to accomplish something on earth?

On another note, I look forward to the day when the vaults in Vatican City are opened for all to see. I can't even begin to imagine what's being hidden in there.

Personally I don't think Jesus wanted worship or a religion in his name. I just think he wanted to spread a message of peace and harmony. He had answers to guide us and I believe this is what has been lost to the surfs (us) but is still on this planet, deep in vaults away from our eyes.

As with all lies there must be elements of truth contained within to hold up the lie. I don't believe the bible is all false but I strongly believe there are plenty of un-truths and deceptions to stop followers from discovering the true words. What you say is the right way of looking at the Bible! As Rocky also says there are layers to be found. Most get caught up on the lowest layer and can't see above.

You're also right about the Vatican, they hold so many keys!
