I like sci fi. The stargate movie was good. That being said, I could never bring myself to watch even 1 episode of the series. And lawdie knows I tried. My wife too. same thing. It just sucked outright.Same goes for the last star trek series.Even with some beer and masterkush on a friday night after a nice blowjob I couldn't watch an entire episode. The acting was cardboard, the effects too few, the storyline boooring.Ok you know I lied about the blowjob part, after all ...I'm married. And I'm not that limber...

hey kids, this is sci fi :

"Mother Hitton's Littul Kittons" is a classic science fiction short story written by Cordwainer Smith, first published in Galaxy Magazine in 1961, and partly baed on Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves[1].. It is collected most recently in The Rediscovery of Man. It details the methods by which the Norstrilians (or "Old North Australians") of Smith's fictional "Instrumentality" universe maintain their monopoly on the precious immortality drug stroon. The story details part of the background to the novel Norstrilia (which references the Kittons once in its introduction as a sure method of death).

Netflix has all the shows and movies.
 Quoting: Alien Commander Omd I

Nope.

Atlantis is no longer on Netflix, and SG-1 expires from Netflix today (8/15).

Better watch all you can today, or order the DVD's !!!
 Quoting: Asgard High Councel 19857349

Just finished both series so it will be years before I will
want to watch them again. In the meantime what is left?
What comes even close to SG-1 or Startrek that is interesting
and exciting? Tried Firefly and found it a space western,
not that creative or interesting. So beam me up and tell me
whats left to watch?

alien7 -Surely human, you can still hold our interest?
 Quoting: Alien Commander Omd I

Are you watching Falling Skies? I think it's pretty good.
Although, it may be too soap opera-y for you.

There's a new show coming out this fall called Revolution - that may have some potential for excellence.

But I am still rewatching Stargate - must be on my 10th go through by now. AND I still keep finding new things. The Stargate shows definitely have a lot of layers to them. And they still win for rewatchability!!

(oh..and Falling Skies has Stargate's Collin Cunningham & Ryan Robbins and Revolution will have Tim Guinee.)

I'm seeing a pattern here - people that really liked the movie, have a hard time watching the show. People that didn't really like the movie - like the show. o.O

Since I'm a total addict - all I can suggest is make the commitment to watch 1/2 of the 1st season. That gets through all the setup and the actors start really getting comfortable in their roles and things really start to flow. If you can commit to the full season - even better.

Season 2 is when the show really hits it's stride (as is true with most shows). Shanks starts evolving Daniel away from Spader's version - and the evolution of Daniel is one of the best parts of the series...as is Sam's. The nuances of the character changes are one of the primary reasons I enjoy rewatching - I catch new things each time and have come to really appreciate the acting.

The first viewing is about the story, the 2nd is picking up the story pieces you missed before you knew how it all played out. The 3rd and forward - you start focusing on the acting, the writing, the set design, even on the extras in background and so on.

I've never rewatched a show this many times....ever! I've actually started to wonder if there's something subliminal in it that makes me keep watching? hiding

Mythology - It.s a mythology of the future! The blending
of the mythological concepts of the past woven together with
the now greatly excepted modern day science of the
Multiverse has an irresistible drawing power on the minds
of those of us who are ourselves part of the creative state
- Stargates are more than openings to new parts of the alien03
universe but gates into mental dimensions that will allow
us to visit these new worlds. Head first our minds must
create to discover and explore the multiverse. Stargate
SG-1 is a mythology for the future.

Re: Was STARGATE SG1 the Best Science Fiction series ever made?
Just finished Battlestar Galactica series {2004-2009} and
when the Netflix program asked me to vote I gave it one star
which means I hated it. Why? For a series with excellent
acting it all added up to nothing. Loaded with soap opers
and emotional dribble throughout, they started with the
excellent idea of advanced AI {artificial intelligence}
coming back to destroy its creator and it was mostly all down
hill from there. Instead of expanding on an intelligent
concept they corrupted it with emotional melodramatics,
went into concepts that pushed the credulity to the
not believable and almost illogical. The acting however
was excellent and that is one reason I watched it till the
end of the series. What a waste to use such good acting talent
to produce what adds up to a second rate Sci-Fi soap opera.

Any recommendations for another series that rates at least
comparable to the Stargate or Star Trek type of intelligent
SciFi?

alien03 -So someone recommended Farscape. Watched it on
Netflix for the full 4 seasons and then had to pay ten
dollars to Amazon to stream the Movie they made to round-
out the ending. Was well worth the ten dollars. Still I'm
sorry it ended. Like SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis I could
stand a lot more - good acting, imaginative with plausible
concepts. Now watching Dr. Who; interesting but still haven't
decided whether I like it.

spock -Far-out and creative is good, but it must stand
the Vulcan logic test.

I loved the film Stargate and it's one of my favourites but not so taken with the series. My favourite sci-fi series was Babylon 5 as if we ever get invaded I want the aliens to have those spaceships! My favourite "cult" series was Lexx - very weird.
 Quoting: RPR

Babylon 5 was truly outstanding. One of the best sci-fi characters ever ..-> Londo Mollari - and then there was the Menbari and the Vorlon (yep, Kosh lol) and the Shadows. That show left an indelible imprint on my mind and soul. Glad someone remembers this show.

I absolutely agree. Best television sci-fi epic ever. Battlestar was fresh and adult but never the intrique that Bab 5 had. Most of all, there is a story for almost every situation going on now. It is timeless. Bab 5 RULES!

alien7 -The more I watch of Dr. Who the more I like it. A Sci-Fi trip that rivals many others for creative concepts.
Apparently the original series goes all the way back to
the 1960s and is considered the longest running Sci-Fi
series ever. My Netflix began with the 2005 season {the Ninth Dr. Who} which started in 2005. In Dr. Who you have time travel instead of your regular Sci-Fi space travel or dimension travel; But it works if you consider the concept that some physicists believe that time is not linear. The series comes from England and most of the actors are English. And the acting, directing and special effects are good.

Stargate is shallow sci-fi for shallow minds... its realy kiddie stuff, moreso stargate atlantis, which is totally fucked up.

No technical deepness, actors act like out of a western, all is shallow. A horrorshow for someone who really loves SCIENCE fiction.

Really? It was pathetic, a pale imitation of the original movie.

Babylon 5 was by far, the best TV science fiction series. It is closely followed by Firefly. Of course that is only one man's opinion.

I'd definitely consider Farscape to be better. Probably a few others that I can't think of this early in the morning, too.

That said, I did like SG-1. The first four seasons will stand against most anything, even if it is somewhat shallow. It went downhill quick from there though, and I quit watching after season 5. I did watch a little of the last two seasons, and I thought it had gotten better as compared to those middle years, but by that time, I wasn't overly interested anymore. It was a great series, but it stayed on the air way too long.

Babylon 5 was the best, in it's time. It's gotten old now though.

SG-1 was quite enjoyable for a show created to glorify the US military.

Farscape is my personal favorite.

By the way, my lifelong love for sci-fi began in my childhood, when I was awed by the amazing show Moonbase Alpha! So I was overjoyed when I found out it was getting a rerun! I was going to get to relive some of the most magic moments in sci-fi!

But alas, I couldn't stand to watch ten minutes of the putrid crap. Moonbase Alpha turned out to be the lamest, most insipid thing ever created.

Apparently, my excellent taste wasn't yet fully developed at 10 years old...

Re: Was STARGATE SG1 the Best Science Fiction series ever made?
Cannot decide between these two:

SG1 - Great series, great story telling, great cast, what's not to love!

Firefly - Way to short (thanks FOX) great stories, GREAT cast and one of the best theme songs for a TV series ever!

Take my love, take my land
Take me where I cannot stand
I don't care, I'm still free
You can't take the sky from me.

Take me out to the black
Tell them I ain't comin' back
Burn the land and boil the sea
You can't take the sky from me.

Leave the men where they lay
They'll never see another day
Lost my soul, lost my dream
You can't take the sky from me.

I feel the black reaching out
I hear its song without a doubt
I still hear and I still see
That you can't take the sky from me.

Lost my love, lost my land
Lost the last place I could stand
There's no place I can be
Since I've found Serenity

And you can't take the sky from me.
