yes you are all right. they should have every right to chant USA. they should have the right to show pride in our country. but white americans live under the assumption that all mexicans are here illegaly just stealing resources from the country. or that is at least the mexicans they think of when the subject comes up.

but the truth is there are plenty of families here that have come just as our families did. to make a better life for their own families. to provide for their children. i would say that if a kid is playing high school basketball then they have some pride in their community and ultimately country. so i am sure you could see how that chant might hurt some of those kids. even the white kids by alienating them from thinking they are also US citizens.

i am sure someone will argue with me that they were just chanting USA. but come on. why would they unless it was a personal attack on the mexican kids. i mean why wouldnt they chant their school name or mascot or sing the "bye bye" song like most cruel sports fans. btw i am a sports fan and may have even participated in such things in my past :)

i am sure they knew exactly what they were doing and chanting. especially in texas. if they did not and they were ignorant to how that might offend a group of mexican kids whos families are , more than likely, new to country (within the first few generations) or even illegal, then this is an education for them. it happens.

I think everyone is missing the point. The Chant was a deliberate attempt to shame and ridicule the other team because of their ethnicity. If they had chanted "blacks, BLACKS, Blacks!!!", or "whites, whites, whites" it would have been just as idiotic.
