Over the years we have shifted to a permanent decline mode of thinking rather than tshtf binary thinking. the wife and I have both taken thousands of hours to learn varias skillsets such as medical herbalism, nutritionism, foraging, knitting, spinning, bicycle care and some repair etc. We are already living our new lifestyle as a project of DIY sustainability rather than clinging to the old paradigm we were both raised in (consumerism). Therefore for us, meeting others who have been investing in skills, capital, and infrastructure is a very good way to meet our needs outside of the system and move with others who are likeminded toward outcomes that have us thriving as the rest of the mainstream clings to the consumer paradigm and dwelling in fear of tshtf as the moment when their old worldview dies. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6524811 Very nice! At first I thought you were a youngin. Now we are still in consumerism mode, and I greatly admire your studies, but our family dynamic is complicated. We are not in a position to learn everything we need to at the moment. Plus we have 3 teenage girls and a younger boy. They kind of think mom and dad are nuts! Paddle faster honey, I hear banjo music! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 6524811 United States 03/07/2012 11:56 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | yeah its hard in the family situation. I didnt grow up in a family of this mindset. Its difficult to deal with those loved ones still asleep. Especially if you share a roof. The way we have always explained it was if nothing ever happens, we still are living our ideals. But unfortunatly, our economy will collapse (is already), oil isnt actually a magickal process of creation (abiotic), the government is becoming more tyrannical, and our industrial food supply is killing everyone who eats it. Our closer relatives thought we were crazy back in 04 when we moved here. Now they think we are wise. Funny how that works out. Keep trying to lift the veil and show them the world as it is. The trick isnt in what you say, its how you say it and what value systems you can codify into their subconscious minds with your tone and word choice. |

I can hunt, fish, find ginseng in the wild, find berries and roots to eat, field dress any animal and cure and tan their hides. I also went to college and make decent money for a West Virginian. When/if TSHTF, I have a feeling a lot of people will be headed for our hills, begging for help... |

But what do you guys say I should do? Quoting: antaun What part of WV are you coming to? I'm in eastern WV, called The Eastern Panhandle. It's not quite like the central or southern part of the state. It's actually a "bedroom community" to DC/Baltimore being about 1.5 hours west. It's also a big retirement area. So, where are you heading? |
