They calculate the top speed of the CME and then the distance to the earth and that gives them an estimated time.
But it also slows down the further it travels from the sun so the force of the explosion combined with the distance will give them an acurate time. But the problem is messuring the force of the explosion.

So that leaves them with calculating the speed of the cme and then adding the distance of the sun to earth.

And thats why they can never predict the exact time.

I`m just getting my first cup of coffee down..trying to wake up...but I remember in Jan the mag simulation went haywire from the strong proton storm...it is just a simulation so it may be doing the same thing as it did in Jan...will have to research it more but that i smy guess for now

O yea, since dayz it shakes ALL OVER THE GLOBE with 3.5-5.5 .. there's also plenty of smaller quakes like 1-2 .. but so what, that's a thing we cannot prevent (or at least we think we cannot) - but at least its good if we dont think like a doomsday scenario.. I mean, like I said before - POSITIVE THINKING..

There's all types of weird things going on right now, but none of them can be stopped by a single human - so its time to wake up & realise..

Also - do NOT rely on TV-news, radio-news.. they will tell you only bad things without any need, and when its needed - they wonT tell you... sad ;/

The ACE satellite has been shut down to prevent damage..just like in Jan during the proton storm so everybody is wasting their time clicking on the link..several other instruments and graphs are currently shut down also...The info is on Nin`s solar thread about the outages...so here we sit in the dark...Tom on Nin`s thread has posted some links that at least show the BZ and solar winds...but forget about using the magnetosphere simulation for the next 24 hours..

Here in Western Australia, we have the most magnificent, brightest full moon I've ever seen.
