Sunspot 1429 now facing Earth with 40% chance of X-flare.
CHANCE OF FLARES: NOAA forecasters estimate a 40% chance of an X-class solar flare today from big sunspot AR1429. The sunspot is almost directly facing Earth, so any such eruptions should be geoeffective.

CME IMPACT: A widely-reported CME produced by an X5-flare from sunspot AR1429 hit our planet's magnetic field on March 8th. The impact was weaker than expected, producing only a mild geomagnetic storm. Power grids and other sun-sensitive technologies were unaffected. Update: As March 9th unfolds, conditions in the wake of the CME are becoming favorable for stronger geomagnetic storming. These auroras appeared over Faskrudsfjordur, Iceland.

 Quoting: LuciousGideon

We had an LDE M class last night that has us in a Kp7 storm, i've not seen it that high inthe years i've been tracking it. Theres possible decent size CME coming with that one, which will make things very interesting with the severe proton absorption the planet has already received
“One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back.” – Carl Sagan

This may become a weekly event ...perhaps daily. 2012/2013 solar storm season has just begun. Makes me wonder how many hits the grid can take before it starts failing.
News has been diligent in reporting this time...people are being warned now. Also....yesterday on another thread....people said the emergency broadcast tests had amped up in many area's.
