Started taking Vitamin B6, feels like I'm taking sleeping pills, what's going on?
I decided to start taking Vitamin B6, and ever since, I have been very lethargic and unfocused. My willpower has faded. I feel like I'm on sedatives. What the hell is the deal here? I thought it was supposed to help give me a little more energy.

I have noticed when I sleep, from the moment I close my eyes to the moment I wake up, is one long string of intense dreams. Every single night, nonstop dreaming. I've only been taking it for about 5 days. I think it's time to stop. I'm just wondering if anyone knows why it's affecting me this way. I'm not on any other medications, I eat healthy, and I'm not overweight. Any ideas?

It may be the wrong vitamin for you. We are all chemically different you know. Try Vitamin C next.

Re: Started taking Vitamin B6, feels like I'm taking sleeping pills, what's going on?
How much are you taking and what other vitamins or minerals are you taking it with ?

Vitamin B6 helps with amino acid production for neuro transmitters like serotonin and melatonin which regulate our sleep and dreams.

You should be taking a balanced multivitamin instead of just taking one or two kinds.

Because Vitamins and Minerals work together as co-factors and your body wants a balanced intake of all the essential vitamins, minerals and amino's

You might be right. It's weird though, because I've never read anywhere about anyone having ill effects from taking b6. Everything I've read about it has been positive and supportive.

It's 100mg as pyridoxine hydrochloride. I was taking this

Currently I'm not taking any other multivitamin or supplement.

It's probably good for you to catch up on your dreams and to re-connect the brain.

After a while, go for a nice B complex, and try to maintain a healthy diet and exercise.

I had a similar reaction, then added B-12 and Niacin. My sleep and mood have improved.

Most Multivitamins have around 30mg

And the stuff you were taking before had only 50mg, if you ran out of that stuff and you liked it I would get some more because it looks good.

Maybe dont use that 100mg stuff because its too much and not the right balance for you.

I have ordered some tangy tangerine but that link you gave is a 3 month supply for the price of one of my liquid / powder mix I use.

you shouldnt take a b vit by itself...it throws off all the other b vit.( b3,6,9 etc) Take a b complex instead which has all of them

B Vitamins work best in a complex (a the B vitamins together). If you take one B vitamin, the rest tend to lower in the body.

Re: Started taking Vitamin B6, feels like I'm taking sleeping pills, what's going on?
OP ..... Several things going on here, as others have pointed out. One needs to take Equal amounts of B vitamins, especially B1, B2, B6, B7 ( Niacinamide) B12.

IF your looking to improve stamina, you need magnesium a mineral ! Test run on three genetically matched sets of mice in the late 1960 showed the following results, when placed in a SINK or SWIM situation:

Mice on good diet swam about 12 1/2 minutes before going under.

Mice feed a good diet AND vitamins, swam for 13 minutes.

Mice feed a good diet AND magnesium swam for TWO HOURS and they were removed from the water ( experiment aborted. ).

HOWEVER, magnesium can cause slight diarrhea. I recommend only 50 mgs to start, and try a LITTLE more if this is O.K.

I am NOT a doctor !

According to Adelle Davis, the B vitamins need to be in a ratio as opposed to in equal amounts. She listed the ratios (maybe her take on MDRs also) in maybe her first book, I carried a copy of those numbers around with me for years to check whatever I was interested in buying. I haven't researched recent takes on Bs needing to be in a ratio.

I used to take Torula yeast for the Bs, think it also had minerals.

Years ago during an especially stressful time (like the whole thing hasn't been), my life went further to hell than it already was. One of my symptoms was inability to sleep. The alternative physician's assistant who informed me of the results of bloodwork said I was deficient in B6 and that could be the cause. I had an old bottle of B6, which I promptly took when I got home and slept like a baby that night for the first time in forever.

I had stopped taking supplements because I was seeing an herbalist and didn't want to mix the modalities. Well, that ended that night. The herbs had worked previously but I was too much of a mess at that point and found the combination worked better.

Maybe you have a sleep deficit and the B6 is working on that. Maybe the B6 is helping you process unconscious material with dreams (IP6 does that for me), maybe you're processing too much too quickly and need to balance your supplements. Maybe you need to back off the B6 dosage. I'm curious why you decided to take B6. It would be a good idea to read multiple books on supplements to become very familiar with them so you don't mess yourself up. Find titles that appeal to you.

B6 is used to make tryptophan which makes you sleep among other things.

TRYPTOPHAN CAN GET LOW WHEN YOU ARE FIGHTING A LONG TERM INFECTION.

It's not the b6, but the solar flares that have been causing your condition op.
