Wouldn't put it past the Poms being stupid managers again and getting played - a pretty regular occurence.

E.g. Germans temporarily help the MoD through a tight funding spot using sweeteners and lead-in deals. Once point of no-return is passed terms change; everything costs more, and theres no going back since the old facilities have been dismantled and sold.
