Strange sound over Tacoma Washington right now.

I heard it again earlier about 10pm. My neighbor came out and we just discussed how odd this sound was.


Stopped about 30 mins later....all quiet since then.

Hey, I live in South Tacoma, and I'm not going out at 2am.

I did hear this, took note, but just thought it was some C-17s starting up or something. didn't think about it until I saw this thread just now. It was odd and I did take note. There's been a few stray single black hawks flying around lately, day and night. Normally there is like 2 or 4. With McChord AFB and Ft. Lewis in the area I hear a lot of 'noises'.

What I've noticed the last few nights, all the trains. A night or two ago around midnight seems like I herd train horns none stop for like an hour. Woke me up. nearest tracks are like a mile away. Don't hear them often at all unless the wind is right. And the wind was not right that night. So train traffic must have been very, very heavy.

Did you all know that I saw an AWACS flying around about a week ago. Also one of the Presidents jets is at McChord for maintenance (or was).

Yes I hear the "noise". There are about 3 C-17's doing touch and goes. But I don't think the odd noise is them.
The sound comes and goes. Hearing it now in fact and it makes some pictures on my wall rumble. The jets don't normally make pictures shake on my wall. This "noise" fades in and out slowly over about 15 min. Like something is ramping up to full power, then holding and then loosing power. Been going on for a little more then an hour. It's not normal jet sound at all, not at all.

Got a friend in parkland, she just text me and said there are 3 police helicopters circling the area.....4 planes, like she said, never that many this time of night...and she has lived in the area for 30+ years

I live in N.J. and have been hearing a sound that sounds like someone grinding metal (bad car brakes) on and off for a while now?

I hear the noise again in South Tacoma. Very loud and the neighbor noticed as well. Same sound the OP recorded. Still going on.

I heard it in Kent, Washington about an hour ago, it only lasted about 30 seconds, and I could tell it was doing a fly over. Scared the crap outta me I thought a plane was crashing in my back yard.

There are more extremely loud explosions above tacoma near emerald queen casino. IT WAS NOT THUNDER! Distinctively different sound. It was much more powerful I could feel it hit my chest, almost as if a cannon went off next to you because you could feel the energy hit you. It lit up the sky in a VERY BRIGHT PINK TINTED FLASH. It went off at 1:00 exactly on 9/30/13

Yo, i heard that. 160th pacific. Same pitch, like a lower note on a french horn. Constant, loud until it faded out.

I live right there but unfortunatley im at work didnt hear nothing
