You're a chef but buy Kroger brand meat? Are you a chef at Golden Coral?
 Quoting: AmericanInfidel

Nice. I am buying the meat for me and my family number one. If I had the money I would buy grass fed calls from local farms, but I don't. Yes, some of us have to buy from local grocery stores. I have actually started hunting, and will now get my meat from deer, turkey, duck, morning dove and rabbit that I hunt myself. Where do you buy your meat? I have kids, rent and multiple bills to pay. I grow all my own vegetables and herbs. I can and store them for use during the winter and don't buy any from the grocery. But, from time to time I do buy beef from the grocery because I run out before I can go hunt.

Personally I'm leary of all of it but if I recall correctly Kroger did not deny pink slim in meat (nor confirm) but publix said they did NOT use any pink slim nor buy from any distributors who did.

Just a thought.

I usually buy meats from the farmers' markets. Their animals are grass-fed and have no steroids.

It doesn't cost a whole lot more than the crap in stores and you can really taste and feel the difference.

I had an organic chicken from kroger in the fridge for a few days. When I opened the pack it smelled so I soaked it in cold water with peroxide and salt then rinsed and repeat. Then I ran cold water over it and cut off the parts that still had a slight oder. I boiled it for broth for 2 hours. Do you think it is safe to use the broth. I gave my dog some of the chicken and she so far is fine.

Yeah but will we get sick if we eat it. is it possible to boil the bacteria out of it. i read somewhere that if you drink a shot of vinegar before you it, it will destroy any bacteria lingering in spoiled meat. anyone know if this is true.

i used to work in a grocery store all of the meat products are shipped in bulk and then cut to size in the store as needed, we usually just cut it an wrapped it never seen any spray for the meats, I am sure all of it is pre poisoned before it reaches the stores.......and most grocery stores regardless of the brand get there meet from the same distributors.

SERIOUSLY IF YOU EAT RED MEAT IN THE USA YOUR A FUCKING RETARD AND DESERVE ANY NEGATIVE HEALTH PROBLEM THAT COME YOUR WAY!

already admitted to be the cause of 1/10 deaths and if they ADMIT that much, of course the government NEVER TELLS THE TRUTH and its probably more like 4/10

Whats next? Someone defending the government? Yea like we dont see liars and people that deserve a bullet in the brain for what they are.

Re: Kroger meat is poison
You all do know that when you first cut into a piece of meat, it is a darker purplish-red color. It does brighten as it is exposed to air. Any chef should know that. If it is brownish or off-smelling, it is old. That's one of the reasons why a lot of processors steam pasteurize their meat to kill the microbes rather than use irradiation. While irradiation kills all the microbes, it also leaves it that sickish purple color which people don't tend to like. There isn't the color issue with steam pasteurization.

1 Grind your own.
Very easy using a food processor. Key is cutting roast or steak into small cubes and then placing in freezer to get meat firm. it also helps to freeze the food processor blade. Pulse until it's chopped but still slightly chunky. Place it into a bowl and refrigerate until you're ready to use it.

2 Always demand Grass fed Beef. Feeding cows grains is unnatural not to mention most of the grains they are fed is GMO.

Avoid chicken unless you can get some organic or local grown one. All commercial chickens are fed GMO.

I'm contemplating full on vegan at this point with all the disturbing shit in the news...

Thread: MATRIX-style Vertical Chicken Farming.....unreal....

I did no meat for 8 yrs without much inconvenience and that was before all the veggie friendly options that are available now.

I only managed the pure vegan route for a little over a year before I broke. Vegan is much more difficult than no meat. There is dairy and dairy derivatives in nearly everything!! ..... Label reading is a must (which I still do and encourage everyone to do as well), and then you'll need a damn chemical dictionary to figure out what all that crap is.

Of course the less ingredients the better, but some simple things such as cassinate (spelling?), are milk derivatives and found in everything crackers, pasta, bread....the list goes on and on.

But I dont mean to discourage but rather give you a heads up my experience.

Another consideration is going veggie and if you find the vegan thing too difficult, as I did (I LOVE dairy), then upgrade your dairy standards.

I'm very picky about my dairy distributors. Stoney Farms... Brown Cow.. Seven Stars... they make fantastic yogurt ... full fat too! YUM! The only way to go with dairy, imo. So sick of looking at 800 varieties of zero fat yogurt at the stores...... yuk. It's like drinking non-alcoholic beer. why bother?

The Vegan diet can be very dangerous...especially for a woman, because they have issues with Iron deficiency even with a normal diet...you literally have to graze all day like cattle to get enough nutrition from a vegan diet...
 Quoting: BRIEF

grazing is actually the way the metabolism functions best. Contrary to the old 3 meals a day concept, our bodies function much better (insulin levels stable) by eating 6-8 small meals every 2-3 hours.

However, I do understand your warning about proper nutrients. But considering the average person's diet (not making reference to MO diet, but the average american......how could it be any worse)?

As far s nutrition goes, there are tons of sites that allow you to log your food intake and it calculates your daily intake vs daily needs for both nutrients and calories and will make suggestions on what foods to add or decrease depending on gaps.

With veggies and vegans, proper food combos become important, like eating brown rice with beans for a complete protein verses simply eating beans alone.

And we were always at very nice places. I know the chef was cursing when he got her order.

I would assume that any "chubs" (plastic tubes) of ground meat from anyone had pink slime in it, or at the very least mechanical processing with water jets that might also get prions into the mix.

OP, aren't you scared of mad cow disease from wild meat?

I'd just find a grocery store or meat market and buy only whole chunks of meat.

I don’t buy any meat at Kroger we stopped about a year ago, I order it all at a locally owned store and I order it whole meaning I order a beef tenderloin then cut the meat and package it for the freezer.

Last week I checked on buying a grain feed no chemical cow and wow the cost was high and the amount of waste is really high. If anybody is interested I could post the cost and details

i got a 2lb pork roast from kroger. it was pre-wrapped in mesh, you are supposed to put it in the oven with the mesh on. i cut the mesh and the pork was actually 3 loose pieces bundled tightly in the mesh to resemble a one-piece roast. nothing wrong with that i guess, they need to sale meat thats not uniformely cut. at least its real meat and not pink slime.

I'm old enough to remember the neighborhood butcher....nice old Italian guy owned it.....sawdust on the floor and huge wooden butcher block tables with knives hanging on the wall behind .....very little meat was on display and if you wanted something he would head into the cooler to bring out a large piece for your approval before slicing off a portion for you....no plastic or styrofoam....meat was wrapped in butcher paper....the meat tasted much "Meatier" back then too....

Went to a similar buffet once in Ohio. A kid, maybe about ten years old walked to the table where his dad was sitting with a huge salad. I was impressed because it had all types of fresh veggies on it. His father had come to the table ahead of him and sat a large plate of macaroni and cheese at his sons place.

The kid put the salad next to the mac and cheese, and sat down. His dad looked at the salad, then at his son, and said, "I don't want you eating that until you finish your macaroni and cheese."

Maybe this will help, see if you have 2 or 3 friends ,co-workers or family members, that can go in with you on a half of a side of beef from a local farmer that has freezer beef for sale. That way its a win-win for everybody, and you will have enough hamburger, steak, roast, flank, ect to last 6-8 months. thats what I do with my parents and my sisters, the 3 of us girls plus mom and dad buy a cow once every 8 months.
