Virus Outbreak in Montana
Just saw this come across my facebook feed.

We are being told that Florence is ending school classes early today due to a virus outbreak. A parent told us she received an automated message minutes ago that buses will be picking up students at 11:45. We are trying to get more information.

"investigation of this illness"

They don't know the whole story. The only thing they know is that it is highly contagious at this point.

Re: Virus Outbreak in Montana
Sounds like there is a very contagious stomach flu virus going around Montana at the moment. Also, there is a highly contagious avian pox that has spread from domestic birds into wild birds...

Hope these 2 viruses don't mix.

Re: Virus Outbreak in Montana
Biological Hazard in USA on Saturday, 10 March, 2012 at 04:26 (04:26 AM) UTC.
Description
State wildlife officials say 10 wild turkeys near the town of Olive in Powder River County have died of the avian pox virus. Fish, Wildlife and Parks officials say the virus is most commonly contracted from domestic poultry. It is not always fatal, but in this case the "chicken pox" type rash broke out in the mouths and throats of the birds, preventing them from eating and drinking and impairing their breathing. Symptoms of infected birds are a rash on the legs or head, birds continually walking in circles or sitting in a roost tree for days without leaving. FWP State Veterinarian Jennifer Ramsey says there is no risk of infection to humans or livestock, but she does not recommend letting pets eat the carcasses of harvested turkeys.

“So far, we have had around 115 people affected at this point, but we’re still looking into that,” she said. “We are conducting a communicable disease investigation. I am reluctant to say whether it is a bacteria or a virus at this point. I can’t say one way or the other right now. It is sudden onset, but we have had some people who reported that they felt better 72 hours after they were sick.”
