I started out with collectibles that I had gathered as a child, mostly old comic books I found at my dad and uncle's old residence that had since been abandoned. That and I helped my uncle find his long lost baseball card collection from the 50's and 60's at my grandmothers house and he gave me a stack of cards that included some very valuable items.

After that I developed a knack for knowing what was going to be the "hot" item in the near future and I'd stock up as much as I could and unload when the time/price was right. I would even buy off other sellers at odd hours of the night and even some items from Taiwan that was a steal, if I was up and saw something valuable that was rather cheap I would buy it and wait a few days and list it during primetime USA hours and sometimes triple or better my money.

I went from making from a few hundred on a slow week to anywhere up to $1,000 on a good week and it was rather nice. Since the downturn I'm lucky to sell $150-250 worth of items within a 30 day period. Things are very bad on eBay right now unless you have something uber rare or something everyone wants. If you have something that is nice and quality, people just may not spend the extra cash on it anymore which I totally understand myself given the condition of the economy. Hope things get better, I miss having extra money.

ebay might love them, but I don't bid on anything Asian, unless the Seller has a good reputation. I only have once when I bought a violin.

ebay got greedy and made it to hard for little one of sellers to sell.

i quit visiting there when they demanded a credit card before they would accept my sell add i already had paypal
with card set up.

i had by far bought more off ebay than i have ever sold
and now i dont hardly do either im so pissed off with ebay.

that's why I stopped buy from US...I receive stuff from china, australia, india in 1/3 of time necessary for stuff shipped from US...which actually do not even get delivered half of the time.

i just sold a broken ipod touch for 40 quid, working fine for me :)

On another note. I was in the phone line for Paypal and it was the worst ! It had the worst computer automation ever. It took forever to get to a live East Indian operator

That's exactly it. They have outrageous fees, and have additional comeptition from Craigslist (which has its drawbacks also) and other auction sites that have sprung up. ePay is so greedy it's unbelievable, it has cost them

Same here. Chinese sellers have exploited the fact they can pull scams so easily. I bought an item and was sent a pair of worthless earrings instead of the actual item- and the seller did the same to roughly 20 other people, then closed his account.

Buyer protection got everyone their money back but still... eh

Wordpress blog software is a total piece of shit. The spam protection is virtually useless and there are more exploited wordpress sites online that any other open source cms except for maybe Joomla.

ebay fees are outrageous..

It's a bit more backwards, I see it as not as many people selling things on eBay, I'm a Power Seller with over 1000 feedback myself and i refuse to sell ANYTHING on eBay anymore.

One word: FEES!!!

They increased their fee buy a lot and you can no longer put costs into shipping. They increased the fees on listing AND the percentage they take from you once it sells AND paypal fees have been increased AND ( yes another and ) shipping labels cost more, gas cost more, shipping envelopes cost more, usps cost more period, etc.

eBay will start to see a decline but other online store will see an increase ( which has already happened in the last few years or so ) of sells, eBay was the first highly successful and like all, they'll go down at some point and time.

eBay still exist?? I just use amazon and other shit.

There have got to be code monkeys on here who can personalize an existing auction platform.

I have to admit that the majority of GLP-ers would NOT make good CSR's.

I'm a seller on ebay, i make about two thousand dollars a month. Its all about product, if you have what people want, they will come. Basic business model.

It should be apparent, but ppl don't spend their time looking to buy stuff they don't really need anymore. Ppl are cash-strapped. What money they have goes to the grocery store. Notice how all the big steakhouses offer $7.99 dinners now? They are just trying to keep their doors open. So many businesses going under but you don't hear much about it on msm. I see it w my own eyes tho.

Ebay has chased off many sellers including me. I'm tired of all the hassle and also not treating the sellers fairly. I got a negative feedback which stated I kept someones money and then sold the item to someone else which was a lie and they wouldn't take the feedback off without a court order.

Can you imagine, they allow defamation of character to stand like that. Shows complete lack of character.

Things definitly changed when they stopped allowing SELLERS to leave negative feedback about the buyers. Since this happened, I've had some buyers pull some crazy shit with me and I have no way of warning other sellers NOT to sell to these idiots.

One guy threw a fit because my tracking label had 2 digits mixed up, well excuse me when I'm typing in tracking labels for 5 hours straight on packing nights its bound to happen once. I got my first neutral feedback over this stupid mistake, which I emailed the customer right away after I found out what happened to fix the problem but I guess he just felt like leaving neutral feedback.

Another guy refused to pay for his item on time and eBay aucotmatically opened up a case. The guy took it personal as if I had opened the case myself for him not paying on time and left me my 2nd neutral feedback over it.

The one that burns my ass is the guy who left me negative feedback over USPS taking so long to deliver his package. I sent it a day after he paid and he kept harrassing me over the course of the week about his item, I told him you have the tracking number call USPS or something quit calling me at home when its out of my hands please. Tried being nice but I had a feeling the guy was going to be hateful and try to ruin the 400+ positive feedback 100% rating I had and he did. Still won't change it, and I have no way of letting other sellers know these people are dumb as hell and not to sell shit to them now.

I have resorted to leaving the stupid ass buyers positive feedback but I explain what kind of shit they pulled with me on there but they get buried I know its not very effective.

It's the sellers fault for being too greedy. They put up an item for bidding but they don't like the low bid so out bid it deliberately. I have lost most of the bids on there for that reason and now I never bid, it is a total waste of time, I just go for the lowest price buy now item if I cant get it cheaper elsewhere.
What is the point of putting an item in for bidding if they don't like the bid being offered, that is why it is a bid, to get an item as cheap as possible, but the sellers don't like it. Totally defeats the meaning behind bidding, today is a greedy days, don't bother. Most items are on bid for too long, like a whole month, like we want to wait that long, and then have the seller outbid it when I could have gotten the item weeks ago elsewhere with no hassle.
So the moral is, sellers stop being so greedy, if you don't want low bids on your gear then sell it as a buy now and save us all the poncing about.

As much as this sucks, it's nice to hear that someone was having the identical situation I am in. The stress is taking years off of my life and I have a perfect selling record. Time to bail!

Again, it's nice to see that there are a few people who are feeling the same way I am on this. So, today marks the start of a new beginning; I've set up an account on eBid.net and paid a flat fee. ZERO fees after that. So that means that I save money, the buyers save money and the price of everything comes DOWN. eBay fucking charges you a NINE PERCENT tax on the shipping!! THE SHIPPING! I'm not fucking CanadaPost! I don't make money off of that !? Just talking about me makes me wish eBay would fall into the ocean.

But whatever, here's to hitting the lifeboats on that place!
