It seems that antiques and vintage items are doing well. However, there are so many other places that one can sell that have little or no fees. So, in some cases it makes more sense to sell directly from either your own website or directly to the consumer via craigslist. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 15732359 United Kingdom 05/08/2012 02:32 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Some buyers on EBAY are spending money, especially high end antiques and vintage costume jewelery. For example, an Augarten spanish rider sold for $510 with 10 bidders and this was on March 30, 2012. Another Augarten sold for $900 on a buy it now on April 4,2012. However, when you consider the fees that these sellers had to dish out, their profit margins are around 30%. So, to make money they have to upload 100's of items in order to make a net profit. Even in 2005, when I was selling on EBAY, I was loosing money. I made $1000 in one month and EBAY took $300, leaving me with a net profit of only $700. Ebay fees and pain were reasonable then. Other than that I'm with you, it's not worth the pain other than to get a few things out of the house. |

Six Six Six User ID: 3753361 United States 05/22/2012 04:21 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hi All. Im doing my usual cruising on Ebay, antiques, video games, collectibles. building sets. tarot decks, computer parts, Gifts for the lady like designer stuff . Quoting: ABADDON - APOLLYON . TOTALLY DEAD ! Hardly any Bidders ! I see O Bids, O Bids constantly . Most everything is at zero bids and about to end. If theres a sporadic one bid here and there its about to end and the seller wont make hardly anything What kind of stuff are you bidding on and is any action happening? This dead calm is scary, More stuff for me,but this is too easy. Is everyone out of money? Whats going on? Ahhh... finally. I'm surprised this was not noticed/spoken of earlier and more often. You know, I used to be a big time eBayer many years ago. To make a long story short... I have been amazed at how DEAD eBay has become, especially in the last 3-4 years. And it has increased with each passing week since. It is shocking. There are items that I've had on my watch list for 1 year, that still remain unsold. Items that used to sell in a day or week. And the item variety available is very small compared to even 2-3 years back. Bids are rare and most definetly, less frequent and so many items go unsold. To me, this was an early sign of the end of times. I know it sounds strange, but eBay used to be an international power house and online community. It is now DEAD. I understand that the economy plays a big factor... but it's almost like the world is CLOSING SHOP, so to speak. I could rant for pages on this subject, connecting many dots... but I just wanted to chime in. The fact that the US postal service is pretty much shuting down and going out of business is very strange too. It is like the world has become a ghost town. I'll touch on the matrix aspects for a second... If there are still relatively the same amount of people, if not more in the world, with alot of material goods... eBay should actually be doing better, in theory. Something doesn't add up. It's weird. The US post office and eBay connection is obvious... so the question remains... what happened to all these people and all the items they had in the past few years. Why are eBay and the US post office cutting back and becoming ghost towns? Either the economy is ALOT worse than the MSM is REVEALING... or... people are being... DELETED. Think an EVIL RAPTURE... a purge of the matrix if you will. It doesn't make sense, unless you think outside the box. I think depopulation has already occured. Strange days indeed. Anonymous Coward User ID: 72254583 United Kingdom 06/12/2016 06:28 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | for selling ... ebay is fucked Quoting: Anonymous Coward 15725373 I used to sell antiques/collectables full time and sold nearly 6000 items.... I used to sell 60-80 items a week, ran deliveries on the larger items with my driver and my van and had a turnover of £176K+ per annum with at least 40% profit ... I used to buy from auctions and car boot sales and had 3 large shipping containers where I stored the items while they were selling then, Ebay removed the seller's rights to leave a negative feedback .... and tried to be the new 'Amazon' ...thats when the fat cunt called Donahue took the reigns of ebay ... he fucked up a worldwide industyr in a matter of fucking weeks result: buyers were taking the piss and threatening to leave negative feedback if you did not give discounts after the item was sold (and properly described with several supersized photos) or.... you sell an antique clock in perfect working order .... it works for 10 days while the auction runs .... the cunt buys the clock, removes the balance spring and demands a full refund and does a paypal chargeback ... you refund in full and get the item back with parts missing? .... you complain to paypal/ebay and they tell you to fuck off? get a few negs and the cunts shut your fucking business for 28 days (you cannot trade for 28 days with no income and you have to pay staff????) .... and no one at ebay or paypal listen? .... I was never shut down, but read the ebay forums and many full time sellers nearly went bankrupt that was the last straw ... fuck them ... let the chinese sell there hmm looks like Donahoe made out like a bandit after he ruined it for everyone else. Mr Tibbs User ID: 69407702 Australia 06/12/2016 06:35 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | In Australia it's the postage that I think has killed ebay a lot, I love ebay as most of the family but if you find an item in UK or USA the postage makes it way too expensive. On a few occasions there have been an item for around 5 dollars but the postage was somewhere between sixty or seventy dollars! Some sellers have free postage which is great but usually on novelty items and party decorations and so on which helps when we are looking for that stuff. On our usual ebay purchases for things we are collecting or books the postage is what makes us decide if we bid or buy, not like a few years back, with a choice of sellers for a particular item you could also pick the best postage price which made the ebay purchase fun, now it's a lot of time just browsing ebay but never bidding or buying any more. unless you come across a bargin, which sadly is not often now They call me Mr Tibbs! |

Quoting: Chrit Last remote-controlled helicopter I bought was a copy! I know how to tell and it really ticked me off. The merchant had no clue! Im a victim of Fake Chinese counterfeit twice this year sofar ! They will ruin us. Thanks for the heads up on the Gold. Im going to set my settings for USA only . Even then, be careful. I've been watching 18k chains, a few of them are definitely real...another few, not so much. And I always keep my settings to North America. Not sure if the people buying the fake 18k just don't know any better or if they realize it's fake & don't care, as it's a pretty good looking fake. Also, not sure if the sellers know or not. But I can tell from photos, 99% of the time. Many times, the cclasp alone is a clue. You just do not see a cheap ass springring clasp on a heavy, 20+ gr chain. At least, not where I come from. If I'm not 100% certain, I dont buy. -.. . .- -.. / -- .- -. / .-- .- .-.. -.- .. -. --. Omnes vulnerant, ultima necat |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 72368903 United States 06/12/2016 08:10 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A lot of people aren't happy with the way things are going on eBay. I was looking at completed listings for a few products and noticed a lot of auctions that ended with no bids. eBay brought this problem (if it even is one) on themselves. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"... the lust for MORE MONEY can always kill a company. Quoting: Yitro Seems like how its going now. Looks like 90 percent of items get zero bids. Whats going on with Ebay? I havent sold there for years, My buying record though is almost at 500. Ebay sucks with all their charges for this and that. As,a seller you don't get shit. They also treat their sellers like crap. Fuck them. I'm never selling anything on ebay again. |
