Intermittant fasting. An easy way to stay healthy.
Hi all. I have been on an intermittant fasting "diet" for some time now. In this time I have lost a lot of fat (not weight) and built more muscle. I feel good and have energy. I am working out a lot and have grown in both physique and fitness. The only way I have been able to do this is by fasting. I have tried every diet and food program out there, worked out like a mad man and nothing has worked. Untill one day I read some very interesting facts about fasting and got on a 24 hour intermittant fasting diet. Actually, it's not a diet, it is now more of a lifestyle change and it has benifitted me greatly. This is the way our ancestors lived and ate. They hunted and gathered in the daytime and feasted at night.

Now, some of you might be thinkin, "No! It will slow down your metabolism and your body will go into starvation mode! Stop!" To this I reply, nonsense. Every single thing you have been told is a lie. From "eat five meals a day" to "fasting will eat muscle". It's all nonsense. None of it is based in scientific fact, it's all just spread by dietritions and nutritionists who want to sell you their "special" products for weightloss and health. Don't buy it.

Fasting is one of the most healthy things a human being, or any living creature for that matter, can do. The benifits are overwhelming. You have more energy, think more clearly, sleep better, lose weight fast but the healthy way, your body handles insulin better, you have lower blood pressure, your digestive system rests and recovers, it weakens cancer cells and it's easy to make the lifestyle change.

If you are interested on getting started and giving it a go here are some tips. On Monday night, eat one big meal. You can also eat your one big meal in the afternoon if it better suits you. I personally eat my meal between 5 and 7 in the afternoon every night and that time is actually reccomended, just make sure you eat around the same time every night. Make sure to eat a wide variety of fruits, veggies, protiens (very important if you are active) and fats. Tey to cut out things such as bread for better results in the weight loss area, it comes down to choice really. After that meal you eat nothing for the next 24 hours. By nothing, I mean absolutely NOTHING. No sweets, no gum, no fruits, no milk. Nothing. You should drink LOT'S of water and make sure you are well hydrated. When the 24 hours are up you eat as much as you can possibly fit in yourself without bursting. Then fast untill the next night. It's just that simple. The first 3 weeks will be hell as your body adjusts. You will fell tired and hungry and will most likely suffer slight headaches. This is becuase our bodies are so used to having easy access to food and the switch is foreign to it. After those first few weeks your body will adjust and you will start feeling great. You will notice quick weight loss. If you work out be sure to do it right before eating. This way your body can put the food directly into recovering muscle tissue. I personally drink soft drinks and soda such as Pepsi and Coke during the day. Not much though. These are not "solid" liqueds such as milk or juice and do not stimilate digestion as much so you can do this too. Just make sure to drink one glass of water of the same size with each non-water drink. Basically, if you want to drink Pepsi or green tea, you have to drink a glass of water first.

Once you get into it you will never feel the need to go back. You will not even have an appetite in the daytime later on. I hope that all those who give it a shot find great success and feel good. Cheers.

Best way to do it is going low carb paleo/primal, whatever you call it. After a while fasting comes along all by itself, quite naturally. The improvements in health are amazing, and you can start eating some carbs, as long as you're careful they don't trigger hunger and cravings the next day.
That's the way I roll.

If you're on the SWD (Standard Western Diet), then it is really hell. And if you eat SWD once a day, you cannot do it, and you'll fail eventually, period.
But once your body re-learns to burn fat on a low carb diet, it's so easy you won't believe it, you don't even have to muster a gram of will, it seems so natural.

Oh, I see. I haven't tried no water. Maybe I should give it a try.
But no food for 24 hours, I managed to do it daily after 2 years low carb. (sometimes in the week-ends I eat more then once a day).
And sometimes I go for 3-4 days (maybe once every three to four months, nothing planned, I just do it to test my ability, and it indeed takes more will power the second day, it's not as easy as the daily fast).

Re: Intermittant fasting. An easy way to stay healthy.
OP, thanks for sharing this information!
I've been doing a lot of research with regards to weight loss and there is so much confusion on this topic.
I've been using the Isalean, meal replacement shakes for about 6 weeks and I've gained 3 lbs.
I use them for breakfast and lunch and then I have a normal dinner but I've been frustrated with my inability to shed my stomach fat.
I run 5-8 miles per week, lift weights 2-3 times per week and participate about 4 hours a week in Judo classes.
So, I'm going to give your fasting a try.
Thanks again for the info!

Weight loss is simple. It's about overstoring, not overeating.
You overstore because of high insulin levels triggered by carbohydrates in your body.

Weight gain is about overstoring, not overeating.

Cut the carbs, you'll be top shape and healthy. That's all there is, and the government and vested interests give the exact opposite advice.

Re: Intermittant fasting. An easy way to stay healthy.
I worked as a dietician and completely agree with OP on this. Every bit of information that's put out by so called experts is only meant to confuse the average person even more. This really is a lifestyle change and the only one that actually works. I have Gout and after not getting any real help from doctors I decided to take matters into my own hands. The supposedly incurable Gout is completely gone now and I don't even remember what the pain felt like even though it was quite intense at times. I actually took it a step further and went all natural for my meals and even cut out meat because after a while it just felt natural and I didn't even have a craving for it anymore. There are days where I even have to force myself to eat. Now it's not like I'm emaciated or look like a holocaust victim, it's quite the opposite. I've never felt better or healthier so to anyone thinking of trying this, go with your gut(no pun intended) and just take it one day at a time. You will feel like a million bucks after the initial shock to the system. I was a skeptic once and now I'm a believer.

Re: Intermittant fasting. An easy way to stay healthy.
I don't do complete fasting, but I drop down to 600-800 calories a day (I'm a big guy - that's nothing for me), then eat normal for 2-3 days, then do it again. Makes a HUGE difference. Body Builders often use this trick to get cut up before shows.

Re: Intermittant fasting. An easy way to stay healthy.
This information is just starting to become mainstream with the popularity of the Paleo diet and fat-burning low-carb way of eating. Fats must be good, not junky vegetable or hydrogenated fats. Carbs are okay, just not grains, sugars, high-fructose, just moderate. IF seems like a great addition to health improvement. I've been doing the master cleanse for years, but it would be excellent to try this as a weekly thing. I always get a big boost from the mc,but just don't do it very often.
