CHRIST AND THE DEVIL INSIDE ME - The Conscious & Subconscious Mind / Left & Right Hemispheres of the Brain
Now, bear with me on this..

I was reading in Tarot Revelations by Joseph Cambell and Richard Roberts (a VERY amazing book recommended to me by Apollo) in the essay by Colin Wilson where he says; (italics are my own musings and clarifications)

"The 'you' who lives in that silent hemisphere (speaking of the right hemisphere) of your brain knows a vast amount more than the rational 'you', (speaking of the left hemisphere) who wastes far too much of his time peering at things through a magnifying glass and cannot see the wood for the trees.

The Problem is that the "silent" you has the greatest difficulty conveying it's knowledge to the rational ego. For the left-brain you is like an overworked housewife (think Martha see luke 10:38-42) who is too busy to take anything in; she says "Yes dear," and thinks about something else. Experiments have shown that the right brain can convey knowledge to the left - even in split brain patients - but it has to be simple"

Now for some reason when I read that I immediately began to think about how this all relates to the Gospel accounts / parables / myths / metaphors / allegories of Jesus Christ. Christ being a model for living with a fully balanced brain (think the cross) with Christ balancing the left and right hemispheres. But to the initiated and profane, like those of his 'own people who accepted him not', the Christ remains within the right hemisphere of the brain or in the subconscious mind while Shaitan or the ADVERSARY and ACCUSER has his domain in the conscious mind or the left hemisphere of the brain that is over-analytical, material and carnal.

I'm reminded of how he says "I stand at the door knocking.." and think of the many spiritual urges, awakenings and longings that surface in the dream world or in our thought life or even in our heart (which is really in the mind) from our subconscious mind.

Also where it says "The right brain can convey knowledge to the left but it has to be simple.." just as Jesus always spoke in parables. Yet in the gnostic scriptures, which metaphorically have been buried deep deep underground in the cold dark earth of the conscious mind laying dormant in the subconscious until only recently have they been unearthed and brought to the table, in these we see something FAR more vast and FAR more beautiful..for those who have eyes to see and ears to hear.

I may be on to something; and it's not crack.

I'd really like a discussion on this.

:)

Really? No comments?

Guess there's a little too much truth in this thread.

Re: CHRIST AND THE DEVIL INSIDE ME - The Conscious & Subconscious Mind / Left & Right Hemispheres of the Brain
I've often wondered if this is what Jesus meant when he advised the disciples to "cast your net on the right side." When they were fishing, casting their nets on the left side of the boat, they were not catching any fish. But when they took Jesus' advice to cast their nets on the right side, they caught more fish than their nets could hold....

I've taken this to mean spending time in meditation....which requires shutting down the left brain.

You as we all do, have the old nature living in you as well as The Spirit Of Christ. That which I would not that I do...the old nature is the man of sin who will be burned up at the brightness of His coming (Christ)!

subconscious = nonvisual physiological processes.

conscious = visual physiological processes.

So... somebody flips you off. You know why you don't like him. You have a visual image/memory of him flipping you off.

But... lets say your body reacts to a pheromone, and you 'feel' you don't like someone. But when you picture them, there is no visual indicator.

So... considering that the visual processes of your nervous system are a very small percentage.

Then yes. The intuitive/non visuo-spatial is processing a great deal more information, that is results in pure 'feelings'.

However, the intuitive/subconscious can be just as wrong as the conscious part of you.

Is there too much truth in this?

Re: CHRIST AND THE DEVIL INSIDE ME - The Conscious & Subconscious Mind / Left & Right Hemispheres of the Brain
How the Brain Creates the Experience of God

When 'we' exist, we're always using our brains in specific ways, and one of the few constant ways we do it is by maintaining the '40hz component
The 40hz activity appears out of the temporal lobes. It's pathways have come to be understood after studies of people who had trouble in the temporal lobes (epilepsy, head injury, etc.). It involves the surface of the temporal lobes, and two of it's deeper structures, the amygdala and the hippocampus.
We have, two selves, or two senses of self. One on the left, and one on the right. The left-sided sense of self is dominant in most people. It's the one where language happens. It becomes dominant when we learn to speak in childhood. After that, we use language as our main way of relating to others. We maintain an almost constant stream of inner words, inner monolog and thoughts, in words, about almost everything we experience.
There is a non-linguistic sense of self on the right side of the brain.
A person who's engrossed in a job, like writing or doing art, might find that they no longer feel that 'they' are doing it. The words they write; the pencil lines that appear; seem to be coming from somewhere else. The right-sided self has taken over the job, and it's presence is manifested through it's behavior. Absorbed, the person working with such a 'muse' has no attention left with which to stop and 'sense a presence'.
On one extreme, there is the 'demonic' or evil visitor, and on the other extreme, there are more angelic visitors. It depends on which emotional center (amygdala), left or right, is more active.
If the negative one (meaning the one that supports fear) is more active, the visitor experience will become a visitation by a demon, Satan, or a terrifying ghost. On the other extreme, it could be an angel, a spirit protector, or even God.
