A soul is the living energy that is going through your body and brain to allow you to be alive and to have a consciousness of self. As energy doesn't die but it's transmuted, when your organic body rots, that energy continues on. In what form? well that's debatable, but the ancient mystics used to argue, very convincingly btw, that the soul passed onto another plane of existence.
