Been contemplating when to car-pool - used to be when gas here was $3.40, has not happenned yet cause I enjoy my independence of leaving when I want to. gas prices are expected to increase another $00.50 in the coming weeks. I need to change. M M Building a bunker and prepping is the only way now, seriously, if you take any advice heed this! G d be with us all. |

| Spazz User ID: 1001302 03/18/2012 12:05 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The other day I had to go out to an appointment with my son and told him to keep his eyes peeled for the cheapest gas down a three mile stretch of road. Turns out the cheapest was about where we started watching (3.79). After the appointment we headed up to the cheap gas station and they had raised the prices three cents a gallon during the hour. When I asked the clerk about it she said they only raise rates in the mornings, I said not likely as we were just there an hour ago and gas was 3 cents less...she tried to change the focus to rising gas prices in general but I caught them raising prices mid-day, just prior to rush hour traffic. I realize they can do what they want to do but to claim one thing and do another? par for the course in our history I guess. I wish I could ride a horse, our civilization isn't quite built for that these days. |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 12190406 03/18/2012 12:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If its solely in gasoline prices it could be 100 a gallon before it impacts me , I use less than 60 gallons a year as it is. I suspect long before then the upward pressure on the prices of everything else from school bussing to trips downtown will collapse the system. It is of course in a flat spin right now. I pay more for gas so I buy less stuff , I buy less stuff so less diesel gets used to deliver it, less diesel gets used and that means less gasoline, less gasoline means a relentless march up in gas prices , which means I buy less stuff so less diesel gets used so less gas gets manufactured . LOL wake up sheepy sheepies you are fucked and don't even see it coming. It will not matter one iota how close you live too work if your company shits you out on the sidewalk. Or your boss boots you off the sled so his child can get private trombone lessons and have the lastest Itoys. |

The going rate is paying the person 10-15 dollars a week to ride which is a lot cheaper than filling up their van or SUV |

| LindaE User ID: 1415061 03/18/2012 01:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | We saw the writing on the wall five years ago and bit the bullet costwise to buy a Prius. Still love that car, and the higher than normal seats in the front are a plus for a senior. Our Camry's seats were getting to the I need to drop into them. So, the gas prices for me aren't too bad. We also have a fuel efficient Corolla and a gas guzzler Ranger pickup. That's for when we need to buy hay, or other bulk items, and gets driven just enough to keep the engine in good shape. Last time we filled the pickup and filled a few gas cans the total came to $90. Real sticker shock there!!! We'll most likely keep on being careful with our trips outside of work (8.5 miles each way, 3 days a week for me) and church (17 miles each way twice a week). If it gets to $7 I think we'll rethink what church we attend, and my job at the library may wind up being a thing of the past, so I'll stay home a whole lot and garden and raise the chickies (who love to hide their eggs since they're free ranged). We found 8 eggs last night in an unusual spot behind the workshop, and got two delivered right by the front door in an unused planter. |

But It still cost me about 70$ a week. I would get a better gas saver if I did not love my car to much. But 150-200 a week would really start to suck. |

He recieves a monthly, flat rate, gasoline allowance. This allowance has not been increased since 2003, so we are feeling the pinch. When we added up his monthy gas expenditure last month the total exceeded what our mortgage payment used to be. (Thank goodness the mortgage was paid off in 2010.) |
