Thanks for your reply.
For some it is a controversy, indeed. Debates will continue until the end.
But for others, not so much. No debates and no controversies;
"... And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory..." - 1 Tim 3:16
I wish you well neighbor.
So you say... But how do you account for this verse then.
Hebrew 4:15. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are
, yet without sin.
When James tells you just the opposite.
James 1:13 Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil
, nor does he Himself tempt anyone.
Thanks for your reply,
A High priest should have an intimate understanding of the things he is making intercession for. To include being 'tempted' in the vessel of a man.
You and I are well acquainted with such things (being tempted, that is). But we are both loaded up with sin. Lots of it...
Where as He was/is not.
But what do you suppose the accuser of the brethren does day and night before The Almighty? Lots of scripture to show where the accuser 'tempted' the almighty. But He is/was not 'tempted' by such ongoing attempts/efforts.
So, we see a confirmation in James. He cannot be tempted by evil. Though some may try and try.
IMHO, accounting it is a matter of perspective. How one reads verses and applies them to all of scripture (context).
Those are my humble views.
A good study for this evening;
If God is not tempted, as some understand 'temptation', then who is being tempted in the following passages?
Exodus 17:7; Numbers 14:22; Deuteronomy 6:16; Psalm 78, 95, 106
Reread James 1:13 Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil,
nor does he Himself tempt anyone.
Ex. 17:7 is not speaking of evil....
Numbers22. that all the people who perceived My glory, and the signs that I performed in Egypt and in the desert, yet they have tested me
these ten times and not listened to My voice,
Testing G_d is not tempting him with evil.
Deut 16. You shall not try the Lord, your God, as you tried Him in Massah....
Again, where is the evil?
Remember I'm using NT verse to dispute NT verses. I have said nothing about G_d saying not to try him in the Tanach.
