You act as if Fukushima has been contained, it has not and will not be for years. The core of one reactor has melted through the floor of the containment unit and the floor of the room the containment unit was in. I was under the impression this was prevented when Chernobyl was encased in concrete.
In Japan there are spent rods in Unit 4 sitting in a pool of water that is exposed to the atmosphere and the environment. The Japanese are concerned the wall of the pool may give way and start leaking with the next earthquake. They plan to submerge a unit in the pool of water transfer the rods to the unit and then with a crane move that into a stable pool of water. They estimate this will be completed in December 2013
Sure the initial accidents were different but the fact we are not equipped to deal with the aftermath either one is the what makes the similar
