Waiting for midnight, hungry families on food stamps give Walmart 'enormous spike' | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 18967804 Australia 07/02/2012 06:47 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | [link to rockcenter.msnbc.msn.com] Quoting: Sharty Mc Bean At the stroke of midnight, a growing number of Americans are lining up at Walmart not to cash in on a holiday sale, but because they’re hungry. The increasing number of Americans relying on food stamps to survive the sluggish economic recovery has changed the way the largest retailer in the United States does business. Carol Johnston, Walmart’s senior vice president of store development, said that store managers have seen an “enormous spike” in the number of consumers shopping at midnight on the first of the month. That’s typically when those receiving federal food assistance have their accounts refilled each month. Wake up, sweetheart. America isn't the only country on the planet, nor is it the only country ignoring the plight of its increasing number of starving, homeless people. |

Quoting: LindaE Wal-Mart does have some stores open 24/7. And they DO sell name brands, and they regularly have the best prices in town on what they sell. SO, to make my food voucher card work the hardest, I'd shop there too. But I'd like to believe that I'd wait until morning to do the shopping. Hope I'm never in the position to be needing to do this... but what do we know? Whatever, i seen those tweeking fools out at 3am getting hot pockets and coffee, that will go well with the 2 year old. |

2k3Mach User ID: 2060554 United States 07/02/2012 07:34 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I recall an incident at my local wally world concerning the abuse of food stamps. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7314441 This lady was out at 2am, with her 3 children who couldn't have been older than 7, her color is of no import, I sighed as I walked up behind her 2 buggies full and began to wait patiently. She unloaded the first cart and paid with her food stamp card and thats when I noticed what was in the second cart. The clerk grabs the portable scanner and walks around to scan the 72inch HD tv as the lady fishes through her purse for her visa... I know this, because twice during the search she snapped at her daughter, asking if she'd returned the visa. The tv rang up at 600+ and, with the lady no unloading garbage onto the counter to get her credit card... I lost it. I snapped all over her, spitting things like how disgusted I was at her actions, that she is what is wrong with the country and that she's setting a wonderful example for her young kids. She tried to interrupt, getting the typical indignation look on her face, so I dropped the frozen pizza, the only damn thing I'd stopped for and raised my shirt exposing a nipple and offered it to her to suck on some more, since she just finished sucking on it to buy a tv... Moral of the story is, cops get called AND I'm the bad guy! Told to never return to that particular wally world again! Yeah, thats when I stopped capitalizing 'merica. Pathetic isn't it? My cousin, who's now passed away was a welfare abuser. Her and her "separated" husband lived in a nice apt paid for by taxpayers, had very nice furniture, she had a brand new Nissan, he had new Dodge diesel 4x4, while my wife and I were struggling doing things the right way. I can almost see why people do this crap, but things need to change! Anyone on welfare/food stamps should be forced to take drug testing. Anyone on free/assisted housing shouldn't be allowed to have baby daddy or anyone else living with them in that paid housing. This is rediculous when you have to cheat the system to have anything because of the others cheating the system and costing the honest even more! |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1405546 United States 07/02/2012 08:05 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Funny, people complain about not having enough money for food.........but then purchase Cheesy Doodle Dippers, Chocolate Covered Nugget Cereal, Chunky Cheesy Double Chocolate Chicken Chuggers. If one needs food stamps, they should not include most junk foods. I know kids need a some treats but enough is enough. I am willing to pay a tax for others in need to get grains, milk, fruits, ect. But I am not happy about paying for shit they DO NOT NEED! |

Obesity used to be a sign of wealth, now it is a sign of sloth and poverty. if these people actually had to work for anything they got instead of sitting on their fat asses waiting for digital payments to hit, I might have some sympathy for them. Plus, the title of this thread is a misnomer. A "family" INCLUDES A FATHER WHO'S JOB IT IS TO SEE THAT HIS WIFA NAD CHILDREN DO NOT GO HUNGRY!!!! |

The workers cost of living is not factored into it. This is where Stagflation comes from. Stagnant wages simultaneous to printing of less money also called Quantitative Easing. This is rediculous when you have to cheat the system to have anything because of the others cheating the system and costing the honest even more! I definitely agree. I'm on something called the AISH program and I save my money so I can buy winter clothes (that I like, I hope that's cool) and a warmer duvet, some new towels, a ten dollar baseball ticket, and I eat about 60 dollars worth of food each month and preserve mostly everything in the freezer. And I'm also going to school for math upgrading and GPA upgrading to get into the school of Business at the University of Alberta. Then there's this dude who'se 40, eats three burgers a day from Arby's, laughs about it ("I'm a big guy!" he says) and is "happy" living with his fiance on assistance. First of all - I don't give two craps if you're "happy" or not - you better do something for this economy. It works to work - ever seen that before? Unbelievable. The welfare program here in Alberta is terrific - I get 1,588/month and I manage to save about 60% each month. I also opened a trading account for the near future (which I've already lost a bet or two on...) |

I can't wait to see the abusers of the welfare system have to hold up to means tests and drug tests to officially declare whether or not they're a productive member of society. |

Saddletramp User ID: 87490 United States 07/02/2012 08:40 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The real problem with Foodstamps is not that so many people need it right now, I understand that. The problem is, of every $1 dollar in taxes that goes into the food stamp program, only about .25 cents actually makes it to the food stamp recipients. So while this story claims that "Food Stamps" have a stimulous effect, when you take into account the amount of taxes it takes to fund the bloated program, it's actually a net negative...
