| Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 6675690 03/19/2012 08:55 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I actually posted a thread about an increase in tooth infection, it was my first ever pin. This was around Christmas. I went through two or three rounds of amoxicillin, and a round of penicillin which worked far better. The infection was still present at the time of tooth removal. And now I think its spreading yet again, although now it has no tooth to hide in as far as I know, and will be easier to get to this time (BTW, waiting on gas money to head to the Emergency Room - cars on empty) |

There seems to be swelling on the right side of my throat - a hard pea sized mass and under it, a larger mass. Think I'm gonna hit the ER, just in case...but before I go.... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6675690 Any thoughts? I don`t want to make you scared but an abscessed tooth can kill you. If that infection spreads... You did take antibiotic before that tooth was extracted, right ? Go to the ER, right now. |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 12745470 03/19/2012 08:58 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | presumably you were on a regime of antibiotics to clear up any infection before the tooth was yanked? An infection would be really painful, and you'd taste it and your breath would be foul. The swelling and tenderness you described is typical of the kind of oral surgery you've had. It takes time for the swelling and tenderness to calm down and heal. Put an ice pack on it and rest. |

Gonna head to the ER shortly - waiting on some gas $ |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12745470 Also, I wasn't able to get the tooth out on several occasions - the infection was recurring from Christmas to March. It took 2, maybe 3 rounds of amoxicillin and a final round of penicillin. The tooth extraction, despite copious Novocain, still hurt despite the numbing and the dentist said this was due to the infection not being completely dead. Although he probably cleared most of it, I am almost certain it has spread down into the right side of my neck, or perhaps I have mono? Or something similar? Not sure at this point, but just to be safe, considering how long I had the condition for, I'll probably head to the ER |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 11654871 03/19/2012 09:13 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If the tooth was extracted what you are mentioning could be your immune system getting rid of whatever is left; if you have body aches and chills then perhpas itcould have gone systemic, i just had an abcessed upper tooth removed 2 weeks ago, afterwards i was sick with fever and body achesfor 2 days but now iam fine, i do have extensive academic and experience on healing without having to consume so many antibiotics, etc, but again i am versed on how treat infections with alternAtives , i encourage individuals to get knowledge on how to treat infections, fractures, epidemics etc without relyingon hospitals when the shtf there will be no hospital personnel around to help you or your family. Hope this helps |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6675690 Any thoughts? reactive lymph node enlargement, not unexpected, not abnormal as result of septic jaw, you need not fear if youre not febrile or puss draining, but, a real abscess needs drainage, and appropriate antibiotics for at least a week and if it has really dug into the bone, you may need up to 6 weeks of iv antibiotics to fight bone infection. |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 12229032 03/19/2012 09:20 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You do not have mono....23 yr paramedic and nurse practitioner . the oil pullling will not hurt you, BUT...if you just absolutely cannot get a friend/familt member to take you to the E.R. try the oil pulling....but you really need to go to the e.r. the infection has spread into lymphnodes and you will need stronger antibiotics, probably a zpack, or something stronger. Plz dont procrastinate....also, gargle every 3 hours with warm salt water , add 1tsp of salt to 6-8oz. of warm water..stir and gargle in the back of your throat for 1 full minute, 3-5 times a day, (IF YOUR NOT GOING TO DO THE OIL PULLING...DONT DO THEM BOTH TOGETHER....PICK ONE OR THE OTHER!)YOU MAY A PEA SIZED ROCK HARD PC. OF PUSS, GREEN MUCUS LOOKING STUFF, IT GETS STUCK IN THE FLAP ON ONE OF THE SIDES OF THE BACK OF YOUR THROAT....GARGLING WITH SALT WATER SHOULD DISLOADGE THIS AND BRING IT OUT...IT MAY BE WHATS CAUSING THE SWELLING IN YOUR LYMPHNODES....BUT ID SAY ANOTHER ROUND OF ANTIBIOTICS IS NESSASARY. |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 8336875 03/19/2012 09:28 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | USe the Immune booster "Airborn" found at walmart, use listerine rinse every few hours for at least 60 seconds take Aleve or generic to releive pain. Dentistry in our country USA sucks. Not to mention the orthodontist price fixing and con-gome that it is. I had an old dentist who was about 2 years from retirement, he was great, affordable. Then he retired and a new guy bought out his practice, we couldnt afford him, and most of the work he did was just to bring in the money. "Harm no one." is a joke. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1185118 dental abscesses drain to the neck and head, and the most common risk, especially in the upper jaw, is brain infection/abscess. Not a nice or easy way to go. A descent, likely foreign trained general dentist should be more than able to pull even buried root stumps with no pain with more than a block and root elevator, dental surgeons are totally unnecessary and over priced. Look around, you should be able to get a tooth pulled for about 100 dollars each, with is worth the money, every penny |

If you simply need drugs, any of the semisynthetic penicillins like amoxcillin will do for a start, and are available at larger fish stores for cheap. IF it is the right choice, it will start to improve within 2 days, if not, you need something like cipro |
