presumably you were on a regime of antibiotics to clear up any infection before the tooth was yanked? An infection would be really painful, and you'd taste it and your breath would be foul. The swelling and tenderness you described is typical of the kind of oral surgery you've had. It takes time for the swelling and tenderness to calm down and heal. Put an ice pack on it and rest.
