The DoD spends a year or more training you to be a killer and 2 days training you to be a civilian. THAT'S what's going on...

I think it is more than that - I want to know what they are injecting into them -- through any possible means -
I think it is a tragedy and people should be concerned that our government has little respect for people and treat all as guinea pigs

Re: What is going on with our soldiers?
It is a tragedy. It's a tragedy what they go through, what they do (to people in the countries they are sent to) and what they become.

It's a volunteer military so it can be said they signed away their rights voluntarily. It would be harder to treat draftees like this, also we might tend to get people predisposed to violence volunteering for the military at more than the rate they occur in the population -- but certainly not all go in like this.

its just the years of abuse and mayhem and madness without being able to quit your job, if soldiers had the option to opt out or quit i'd say at least 50% combat jobs would do so.

Re: What is going on with our soldiers?
WW2 one to two tours max (with exceptions)

Vietnam one to two tours max (with exceptions)

There was obviously no Internet in those days so when the press said you were the good guys - you had a justifiable meaning behind the horrors you were being asked to commit "tra la la, we are the good guys and we are saving humanity from the Nazi's, Japs, Commies (INSERT COMMON ENEMY) etc"

These days soldiers in the field are undertaking multiple wars, with multiple tours of duty and ultimately they KNOW that they are operating as "paid killers" of TPTB. They know they are not bringing freedom and democracy to these countries and they know that these wars were illegal, and they know that they are ultimately part of the USA's planned hegemony across the middle east and further.

So knowing this truth deep inside, no matter how in denial one is, it must be incredibly difficult for the average soldier these days to avoid the cognitive dissonance and resultant breakdowns that eventually comes.

I think that many of them in Afghanistan have become heroin addicts. Alcohol is discouraged there and poppies are everywhere.

I heard that there is a special hospital that is just for heroin detox of returning soldiers.

Re: What is going on with our soldiers?
Heroin is correct.

They come back with PTSD and other issues and are given opiate based meds - when they are then taken off meds, or cant afford the meds, they revert then to heroin which is cheaper.
