A wonderful experience. The Seinfeld episode was dead on about how you paid for the soup.

The soup was great, the bread was to die for, and there was always fresh fruit. I was saddened to hear he had gone the franchise route to make a few bucks. It was a great New York original and deeply missed.

I went once.

Walk in, say your soup, grab a biece of bread, slide down the rail and pay.

But I did feel the tension from all the workers.
They seemed pissy too

Re: How many GLPers Actually Got Soup in NY from the Original Soup Nazi
I worked for a guy who used to have his soups frozen and trucked down from NY to NC.

Maybe it's because I'm a third generation chef, and probably that the soup had been frozen, but I wasn't too entirely impressed, they were pretty good, but nothing I can't make practically blindfolded.

Just my honest two

I used to live not too far, on 57th and 7th, went once or twice (not during lunch)

Pretty good soup...expensive for the time, lol ($5-$7 as I recall]

I'm just a bit of a contrarian, so if everyone is talking about a place, I try NOT to go there...thats just me, and no judgment on the soup

There were a bunch of little hole in the wall lunch places where the guy who ran it had an attitude like that

When you're on W 57th, all the production studios are over by 8-10th ave, so you may get immortalized

or not

5 stars for you, for nostalgia, lol

Thanks. I used to work on 8th Avenue and 49th street, so we just had a short walk to the shop. In latter years, Kenny Kramer (the original source for the TV Kramer) put up a sign near the shop, offering to conduct tours of all of the Seinfeld locations. LOL. The soup was very good, if a bit spicy.

Used to work right around the block. Would go occasionally but stopped because I got so uptight worrying about getting my order right so I wouldn't get yelled at.
