Best SHTF Guard Dog Breed?

something not castrated!

I'd go for some type.of terrier. Jack Russell or Boston maybe. As long as you train it not to bark you'll be good. I'd take a pack of medium-small dogs over a large dog any day.

Plus terriers would be great for hunting small game.

Rhodesian Ridgeback, no doubt. I've had two, and will never live without one again. Extremely loyal, very protective of kids. Big, but laid back, don't bark until there's trouble, then their bark will scare the crap outta anyone.

I would personlly go for a canis panther but they are expensive.

a german shepherd can comprehend over 300 human words and is one of the most intelligent breeds out there. plus, they make great family dogs if you have kids

english bull terrier (the ones with pink eyes)

you have never heard of a bull terrier mauling anyone who lives in the house it lives in

it's always visitors or intruders that get mauled ... I used to breed them

German Shepherd Dog is by far the most dependable and loyal dog one could possibly have, especially around children. Intelligent beyond description, second only to border collie in competition. On balance the Shepherd has been my choice and I have had four.

German Shepherds, they are smart and loyal, protective but good family dogs, when bred right. If you are looking for a sizable dog, there are varieties of German Shepherds that can reach over 130 pounds.

Rotts by far, highly intelligent, natural protectors, awesome power. I bred 60 some and all good with our 4 kids.

I have a Pembroke Welsh Corgi; small about 50 lbs, but an alert sentry nevertheless. He barks in a language to ID the threat; once positive ID is established...he turns it over to Sam Colt and his Master, CE1

To many things to consider when considering the proper breed. In the situation where you are away from population centers a sight hound may be your best bet. A breed that can and will hunt and kill on its own for food plus leave whats left at your door step.

Another thing to consider is a breed that does not yip at the dark and give away your location. And what about the weather? You want a breed that can thrive in all weather.

My pick atm would be the Airedale Terrier. It ties with the poodle for intelligence and is a great hunting breed plus a great guard dog.

If your inside a population center maybe a larger more aggressive breed would do some good for a short while. At least when food gets scarce you could eat his 160 pound plus ass before he eats you.

I have one best dog ever.. sadly she is at the end of her lifespan.. all arthritused up..
In her prime she was super fun and a little too over protective.. Had to really watch her at all times around strangers and other dogs that showed any agression ... man..

LOL that's what I think, there would possibly be more people looking for a dog if something happens, though there will probably be some people disposing of their pets how if things got bad enough :(

Well a barking dog will bring plenty of hungry trespassers.
They wont care if you have some canned beans when you have meat right there calling them.

I best get a bigger freezer, if they be coming over in groups, the dogs dont seem to care if it's gone off, I prefer fresh frozen at least.

A dog that's going hungry will not have the same kind of loyalty that we're all used to. Doberman pincers are extremely smart dogs though.

I have had a few big breeds. Akita, Great Dane, German Shepard and a few others. For early warning i'll take a Tea Cup yorkie over them all. She has better hearing and her growl and bark are quiet. If you looking for a dog to chew a leg off forget the small dog!!

No shit here....get u some guinie hens....they are very loud when someone comes on your property....plus u can eat em and their eggs
