CE1 ***** User ID: 9582467 United States 03/21/2012 03:20 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | What is the best SHTF guard dog breed? I have a decent amount of preps but obviously I can't stay awake 24/7. I have a small dog, but I think I bigger dog would buy me more time during an invasion of some sort. I don't think I want a pitbull or rott. (Seen a rott ripped someone's calf muscle off their leg in front of me.) I am thinking mastiff maybe? I had an Akita at one time but it would bite my mom when I wasn't looking, sneaky bitch, literally. Opinions? Quoting: Albino Rhino I have a Pembroke Welsh Corgi; small about 50 lbs, but an alert sentry nevertheless. He barks in a language to ID the threat; once positive ID is established...he turns it over to Sam Colt and his Master, CE1 Spell DOG backwards.... Last Edited by CE1 on 03/21/2012 03:20 PM |

In the situation where you are away from population centers a sight hound may be your best bet. A breed that can and will hunt and kill on its own for food plus leave whats left at your door step. Another thing to consider is a breed that does not yip at the dark and give away your location. And what about the weather? You want a breed that can thrive in all weather. My pick atm would be the Airedale Terrier. It ties with the poodle for intelligence and is a great hunting breed plus a great guard dog. If your inside a population center maybe a larger more aggressive breed would do some good for a short while. At least when food gets scarce you could eat his 160 pound plus ass before he eats you. |

In her prime she was super fun and a little too over protective.. Had to really watch her at all times around strangers and other dogs that showed any agression ... man.. Very good dogs |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 11132818 United States 03/21/2012 03:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well, you do not want a small dog who barks at everything. They will give you away. Too big of a dog and feeding it will become a problem. Quoting: AmericanInfidel Also, it depends on where you will go when tshtf. A German Sheppard is probably your best bet. Extremely smart, easy to train, can spot a terminator and people see one and know not to fuck around. Pit bulls could be good. Cane corso, American bulldog or any working, strong dog who can fend for themselves is good. Stay away from the barkers. -1 on the big dog feeding issues, shtf, dogfood is the least of your worries, trespassers are what's for dindin for rin tin tin.... |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 11132818 United States 03/21/2012 04:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | LOL that's what I think, there would possibly be more people looking for a dog if something happens, though there will probably be some people disposing of their pets how if things got bad enough :( I figure we're good as long as the doggies dont want to fight us over the best cuts o trespasser |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 11132818 United States 03/21/2012 04:05 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well a barking dog will bring plenty of hungry trespassers. They wont care if you have some canned beans when you have meat right there calling them. I best get a bigger freezer, if they be coming over in groups, the dogs dont seem to care if it's gone off, I prefer fresh frozen at least. |
