God refers to Himself as "I Am". That pretty much sums up your question. Obviously, we live in a finite world and lack any ability to understand concepts such as Eternity. So it becomes a question of Faith.

On the flip side, believing it rained on rocks for millions of years and produced a single cell which somehow evolved into every living thing takes faith as well. Because you always end up asking where did that come from and where did that come from again.

So, you either believe in the Great "I Am" or you believe in From the Goo to the Zoo to You. Take your pick. Both take Faith.
