Re: What IS this? I planted a sprig, 7 yrs later I have THIS - pics inside.
Need some help here, y'all ~

Approx 7 yrs ago I planted a sprig (no more than 8" tall and barely more than the width of a pencil lead) in a 10" pot.

It grew, and a couple years later I re-planted it into the back yard when we built our house.

Today, it is what you see here. About 5 yrs old.

The loblolly pines behind it are approx 6 yrs old, 15-18+ feet tall.

The tree has bloomed for about 3 yrs now, pale red/deep pink buds approx 5mm, they bloom into white "cherry blossom" looking flowers, early in Spring then blossoms fall from the tree (still in full bloom - they don't shrivel) very quickly - almost all at once! - within about 2 weeks of 1st bloom- every year so far.

There are 'fruit-looking' very small berry-sized ovoids approx 4-6 mm on the tree even after the blooms fall away, last year & this year (2011 & 2012) (2nd & 3rd yrs of blossom blooms)

I've heard "Japanese Cherry" (its not) "ornamental Pear" (its not) but damn...what izzit?!

All input is appreciated - hope someone can set me straight on this.

Thank You for your effort heart

My assessment still is a Malus Sentinel crabapple tree.

Quince flowering tree. it will have the buds going up the branches. and closters at the ends unlike the dogwood wich will be mostly at the ends.
i did a video shoot several years back and the flowerest used them. sorry about the joke earlier. i needed to find the correct spelling before i posted. i have worked with them on a project. i have hours of HD footage of that tree. and the buds!
PEACE

It looks an awful lot like a Prunus (Domestica?), a plum tree. But the fruit were quite small you said? Must be some other Prunus species then.

Looks like apple blossoms to me. I had an apple tree for many years. What type of apple tree, well, you'll just have to wait and see.

It appears to be a crab apple tree although it is possibly, too, a variety of pear tree. I am thinking, though, the higher probability is that it is a crab apple tree.

We have these trees here they are ornamental you wont get any fruit. But every year you will get these flowers and yes very quickly they drop on to the ground but thats what they do. You are lucky to have a tree like this they are so beautiful. I think they are called apple blosssom. There are also ones called cherry blosson with pink flowers but ornamental only.

Lol. Funny that you'd ask about plants on GLP. I often go to tree forum at Gardenweb if I wanted to ask questions about trees.

Hey THANKS!

I'll check it out.

Not so 'funny' really - GLP has a well-versed and well-varied clientele.

I'm looking for results, truth, info - where else is better for that than GLP??
