Went downtown tonight and saw all the magnolia trees in full bloom....in Canada in March! Yep, something is very wrong.
 Quoting: ExoPoliChick

in brooklyn all the flowering tees are in full bloom, leaves are coming out. been like this for 2 weeks. started before the 15th.
my father is almost 80years old traveled the world, back in the day he worked for Bell Labs. he said never, never has he seen anything like the year. he awoke last fall to this weirdness.

and tomorrow this will be concidered "NORMAL"
 Quoting: psyoptics

Yeah, the magnolias and the dogwoods are blooming. The trees have buds and the May flowers have bloomed in NY.

We're already acting like this is normal. People just adapt, go on like this is nothing. No questions about anything--no matter how weird. Attitude is like "Oh Well... isn't this nice?!"

NO. Its's NOT nice. It's WRONG and WEIRD.

I really don't see a lot of hope for this country waking up and getting engaged in changing the direction we're heading in if we can't even wake up to how weird this weather is.
 Quoting: telling it straight

Yep I concur. I shudder when people say "I'll take it!"...they are very near sighted. I tell them that it is more than just a little warm spell. They need to get their heads out of the sand and really look at what's going on here. It's not summer, and it's NOT good. I worry about what all this will do to the wildlife..... :(
 Quoting: ExoPoliChick

Ohh.. Near sighted is much better than far sighted! If we think too much then we dork things up! Moment by moment, breath by breath! I'll take it too! Makes us create in a good mood instead of all the doom! The choice is always ours to make, take it or leave it... Don't think too much, just love it!

Nahhh... we have been there way too long already! Time to take her back to heaven... Don't like hell here... People weren't very nice, and greed was just everywhere...

The lessons have now been learned, the time is already past, it is time for us to rise up and take our rightful seat...

The only thing left is to wake up and rise!

Sunshine Coast mops up after deluge18:45 AEDT Fri Mar 23 2012
Floodwaters on Queensland's Sunshine Coast have subsided, but residents and businesses face a huge clean-up after a once-in-a-century deluge.
Disaster co-ordinator Andrew Ryan says nearly 400mm of rain fell in some areas in just 12 hours.
"Couple that with a reasonably high tide last night and the coastal strip was almost like a giant bathtub with a very small plughole," he told AAP.

Thanks NiNz,
I'm still scraping ice off the windshield in AM on left-coast. One reason for the heat wave back east may be because the Jet-Stream has stayed West of the Mississippi and dipped as far as northern Mexico and then goes North to Canada. (since about March 11) You can select a time/date for a loop animation.

Re: 10 Weirdest Things About March 2012 Weather
We've been getting some nice summer-like weather even before it was officially spring. Skipped winter, already had spring/fall together in our winter up here actually.
Now we have summer, been up in the 70's, 80's, 90's already.

Supposedly for next month our weatherman has already forecasted snow for us up here in Ohio.

Er yeah, the seasons are all confused and don't know what the fuck to do with themselves it seems. Still great post, definately gives us bigger picture at just how bad it could possibly be.

Sad thing is... this is what I've been worried about as well. I can see this being a possibility. Yet no one else around me is asking "WTF is wrong with our weather". They're all saying how great it is that we've been getting this summer-like weather and not having to deal with a ton of snow like all of the years before this one.

We live north of lake Huron. There's a 7 hour trail we hiked last week and it was surreal. The Temps. were in the Med 70's but we never saw/felt one biting bug. There were butterflies and flies but nothing that came near our sweaty faces. Usually when it's that warm you have to wear bug jackets and pour on the deet. We've never experienced anything like that in March before!

in northern VA in the past winter even in the coldest days (supposed to be) there was always a couple of bugs (mosquito or moth) flying around the lamp on our porch, even after a light snow. it was simply bizarre to see. either the bugs's bio-clock were confused or the weather was very, very wrong. Can't imagine what the summer will look like.

Re: 10 Weirdest Things About March 2012 Weather
Here in upstate NY everyone was so thrilled by the mild temperatures and snow less winter. Now we face lack of snow melt, and the ground has dried enough to crack.

We are currently overrun by mosquitoes and ticks, and the first tadpoles have hatched.

The fruit trees have all budded out, and we are expecting low to mid 20's for a couple of nights this coming week, which will probably destroy orchards, and strawberry crops.

We are all just hoping for some significant cloud cover and April showers to prevent total devastation, although I no longer know when "April" is.

Def. weird weather. Winter did not seem like winter here at all (northern Vermont), and this past week we've seen highs in the 70s - upper 70s actually. The warm weather cut maple sugaring season short here, and 70s in March is NOT normal for here at all.

Climate disarray: skipping spring and going straight to summer
Posted on March 23, 2012 by The Extinction Protocol

March 23, 2012 – CHICAGO – The United States and parts of Canada have come out of winter to find a lingering ridge of high pressure inducing summer-like conditions. The map above shows surface temperature anomalies during March 13-19 compared to averages for those dates over the last 10 years. More than 1,054 locations set new daily high temperatures records and 627 saw new record lows. “Records are not only being broken across the country, they’re being broken in unusual ways,’ reports NASA’s Adam Voiland. “Chicago, for example, saw temperatures above 26.6° Celsius (80° Fahrenheit) every day between March 14-18, breaking records on all five days. For context, the National Weather Service noted that Chicago typically averages only one day in the eighties each in April. And only once in 140 years of weather observations has April produced as many 80°Fahrenheit days as this March,” Volland wrote. “Meanwhile, Climate Central reported that in Rochester, Minnesota, the overnight low temperature on March 18 was 16.6° Celsius (62° Fahrenheit), a temperature so high it beat the record high of 15.5°Celsius (60° Fahrenheit) for the same date,” Volland added. –Discovery News

Insect populations on whole could be up as much as 40%. Cool season mites, feeding moth and caterpillar larvae populations are extremely high. We've had leafminer damage showing up in february, thats 7 weeks early.Locusts had tent caterpillar waiting to feed before there were leaves out. I've been doing Ag consulting for 28 years and have never seen a season close to this. I'm worried there could be excessive cycles of eggs hatching, in insects thats an exponential amount. 1 mite given an extra month of reproduction time can produce 50,000 offspring, thats 1 insect(although mites aren't true insects).Given that trees are in a stressed condition and root disorders, and vascular disease are at an all time high, any other related biotic stress can cause massive population die offs. I could go on for days, its gonna be intersting
