its been wierd here in the uk. Today in glasgow we were able to walk about in cutoffs and vests (its normally just coming out of frost at this time) and theres been barely any rain, in england there has been a hosepipe ban in effect or is coming in. Again, using my mobile so can't get links up, but if someone could post a link about the uk weather that would be helpful

You basically cannot use a hose pipe off a mains water tap.
eg watering your garden, washing your car, filling a pond or pool, etc

Thanks. It seems like "hosepipe" is redundant. We have hoses, and we have pipes.
In the US, specific activities are banned if necessary, ie. no lawn watering, or no car washing, etc. Since not many people have pools, I don't hear much about that.

I think you can still do things like water your garden or wash your car, but you have to use a watering can or a bucket.

Also many people have water butts connected to their guttering of houses to collect rain water, so this can be used to.

The stinkbug problem in the East will be worse, and that is a cause for alarm. The brown marmorated S.O.B. is a destroyer of citrus and vegetable crops, and with hardly any winter, we are almost guaranteed that very few larva died off. That ain't good. Growers beware.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1044117

I'm restarting my garden now and yes there are plenty of larvae just below the surface. What I'm really worried about though is the mosquitoes.

Had a hail storm today in the peidmont of nc.

Great post Nin, with excellent documentation as always.

We went from having a severe drought here in N Central TX last year to flooding rains this year. It has been in the 80's. The insects are swarming. It never got cold eneough to even freeze the annuals in my yard. The begonias have been bloombing since last spring. The pollen count has been super high, and people with allergies (myself included), are suffering with asthma and allergic rhinitis out of season. Generally, if we have a wet spring we have a cooler than usual summer. It will be interesting to see if this old weather standard holds true this year or if it is out the window like everything else.

damned

Those Brown Marmorated stink bugs are showing up here in Texas. They ate all of my squash plants last year. I collected 15 bugs and sent them to the University of Texas @ Austin and they still haven't acknowledge that the pest has made it to Texas.

Nothing - and I mean nothing - kills them. I won't use chemicals as nothing goes on my food that wasn't food to begin with. I've tried insecticidal soap, Kalin clay, Ditematious earth, you name it. Nothing kills them. Nothing even stops them. They reproduce faster than anything I've ever seen.

OP, thanks for posting this info

WITHOUT evoking the term "global warming".

Because it was only last winter that we were socked with record cold and snow in the northeast US

and already this winter the lefties around me are babbling about global warming...despite the fact that EUROPE had record cold and snow this winter

It's the earth wobble, magnetic or actual pole shift, whatever, the earth is off its moorings for sure...

but it is NOT because driving around in our cars is heating up the planet,

because with the price of gas everyone I know is driving LESS

the planet should be COOLING then, shouldn't it you lefties??

I just checked NOAA for the upcoming week and Philadelphia region has a freeze warning for Monday night.

Last week the weather folks mentioned that the records we might beat were set in 1938, I don't think we beat them.

1938 was a bizarre year for weather. Ironically, the Dust Bowl and record high temps were recorded all across the Midwest and Great Plains. 100s of people died in Chicago from the heat. It was awful.

A local radio host in Dallas does a show called "The Backside of American History". His name is Ed Wallace and I love his show. It's about cars, but I listen to the show just to hear the history segment. It's great.

BTW - The show comes on KLIF 570 AM at 8am on Saturday's. The show is called "Wheels with Ed Wallace" and usually around 9:30 he does the history segment.

Here are a few clips from his shows.
