Most of the truly civilized races don't use money at all, let alone "precious" metals (these have no real value other than in how they can be used in creating things that make life better). They use reputation-based economy, wherein all necessities are always available and the lion's share of resources are allocated to those projects most likely to benefit all, under the direction of those most likely to bring the projects to successful implementation.

Anybody who comes in promising regime change is going to put a regime in over you. New boss same as the old boss; different face, same BS. The ones who are here to help will not seek to govern you. They will not ask you to bow down and worship them - in fact, they will forbid it. And who they are will be immediately recognizable, so they won't need to introduce themselves through some arcane secret Chinese order.
