I felt like that for a few days too Mishka but realized it was just allergies from the spring weather. I was sneezing, eye's watering, tired and a head ache, I took some reactine (allergy med) and it fixed me right up. I wonder if it's this that is bothering you too? Hope you feel better. hugs

Re: Suddenly had the urge to quit alcohol !!
Without making the more squeamish males on here run for the hills I think it was 'cycle' related.

Whereas before I would just have a few more glasses of wine to drown out the headache if I had one... I had to 'live' the hormones effects this month.. and apparently I get headaches a few days before AF arrives... I will look out for this in 25 days time and see if it repeats... :o)

Hubby had 2 'lager top' when he was out on Saturday night... (75% Lemonade and 25% lager... so half a pint of lager in real terms) It's weird but it made me feel like he'd failed.. I didn't say anything as I wasn't 100% sure it wasn't also a bit of jealousy creeping in.. I have been wanting a lovely glass of cold wine... mmmmm ... but I mustn't as I know a glass = a bottle etc etc...

I have to admit I don't feel physically any better, I thought I'd have some eureka moment where I felt awesome but I feel pretty much the same. Not that I felt like crap before... But I expected some amazing WOW feeling... lmao

I AM losing weight though still .... my tummy isn't so puffy looking and my muscles are starting to show there again...

Hey , I hope you Mishka and Kate are still keeping on . I am 49 days sober today and very happy with that . Life is still challenging to say the least but much easier and more enjoyable with the drink and drugs out of my life . Ive saved over 400euro and hope it continues . Take it easy , one day at a time . God bless you :)

My Problem is that "She ain't much fun since I stopped drinkin" I used booze to amuse myself while she was in med school, now that she has more time to spend with me, I don't know how to do it without a buzz.

How's it going? Did you manage to quit?

I am still going strong... went to the Grand Designs Exhibition on Saturday and there were stands giving out alcohol tasters (tiny eyeglass dribbles)... I tasted the Toffee Vodka as I was curious and that was that... no sudden urge to drink the whole bottle or even taste more so I am happy I can do this..

How are the rest of you doing?

9 days ago I had the realization to quit drinking alcohol as well... Much like you I was not abusing it at this stage of my life, merely indulging and enjoying the taste of various fine wines and beers from around the world that I had come to experience and enjoy. It has not been difficult over these 9 days... I have also stopped drinking soda as well and switched to strictly WATER.

Best decision you have ever made, bro.

Seriously, it is one of society's best kept secrets : alcohol is so bad for the human body, it will kill you if you drink it over a period of years.

The damage it does to all the organs of the body is outrageous, yet this DRUG is pushed on us everywhere in society.

Lose the shit, it will change your life for the better like you would not believe.

You don't need VIAGRA, stop drinking, you WILL get a boner again.

You also will avoid tons of CANCERS that alcohol causes.

Smoke weed if anything, that stuff is god given!

I definitely acknowledge the 'agenda' behind alcohol and it's accepted and tolerated prevalence in our society. I stopped drinking not out of concern so much for my physical body but concern for my spiritual body. : )

And I do continue to smoke marijuana. cool2

Well I am really glad I had the wine last night because today i feel like total and utter rubbish... head is killing me, body feels swollen, gut feels like rot... It's convinced me once and for all that I can't pt that crap in me again.

I enjoyed drinking the first glass but then with the 2nd I felt slow, stupid and wondered why anyone would want to feel like this? lol My tolerance for the stuff has gone.. it used to take at least a bottle to get me feeling like that before.

Anyway, back on the waggon... being off it sux.

Re: Suddenly had the urge to quit alcohol !!
June 24 will be 4 years since I've had a drink.

Getting sober was the best thing that ever happened to me in my entire life because once that distraction was eliminated, I could pay more attention to myself, my body, and move forward from there.

I have become such a better person inside and outside as a result of it. I have always been an honest person, sensitive, etc, but now I can actually be honest with myself and meet my own standards. We're the only thing that matters in our lives, as selfish as that is, so we may as well acknowledge ourselves and nourish ourselves.

We both up and quit smoking in February of this year with 3 cigarettes left in the pack between the both of us. We shared them, smoking half a piece, weening ourselves down over a 3 day period. Haven't wanted a cigarette since.

After quitting drinking, a lot of other things changed. I just mainly pay more attention about what enters my body or what my environment is.

Congratulations, OP on caring about yourself! Being selfish in that respect is such a hard thing to do. We are taught from Day 1 to give ourselves entirely to this world and to neglect ourselves and how we feel, what we want, etc. We are told we are selfish and lazy if we don't, but honestly, it is the opposite. It is much easier for us to ignore ourselves and take care of other before us because all of us are good people inside. It's much harder for some of us to stop and treat ourselves with the same respect we would treat other people.

A "Real Life" doesn't NEED any 'enhancements.'

and it makes you insane, even when you're NOT drinking .. may never come back to normal, left you addlepated and alone.

If you stop now, you won't COMPLETELY lose it.

Re: Suddenly had the urge to quit alcohol !!
I know I'm resurrecting an old thread but I wanted to say that reading all 5 pages have been extremely helpful for my own desire to just quit.

Like the OP I just decided to say "meh, no more" this last Sunday.

Granted, it's only been what, 4 days? But in that time I've not had any desire to have a drop. I'd typically polish off a 6 pack + one of those 24oz 8% malts a night. On light days, I'd have just a 6 pack and on heavy nights 2 bottles of wine or around 10 5.8% IPA's.

I always managed to get through the days being productive and feeling pretty good, or so I thought. Turns out you just become numb to the ill feelings after 7 years and power through it until the next evening.

I don't know if it's self hypnotism, or what not, but telling myself before I go to sleep that I want to dream about what I can do to eliminate my alcohol habit and to wake up when I "sense" those signs in my sleep has really helped reinforce my conscious mind with what the rest of me knows needs to be done.

I feel GREAT and am looking forward to my thrown out back feeling better so I can get out and become more active instead of saying I'm going to be more active.

Looking forward to that extra $250 a month too! Thanks to everyone for their helpful posts!

Re: Suddenly had the urge to quit alcohol !!
Welcome to ascension.

I've enjoyed alcohol for 24 years now. When I was younger I'd get be silly with it and get drunk but as I matured I would simply enjoy a glass or two of wine or a beer on a summers day etc etc.

Never really thought of any health implications or worried much about my intake.

Anyway, on the 17th March as I sipped the last of my Merlot I thought about getting in some other types of wine the next day ready for the arrival of my In-Laws from America next month..

I woke on the 18th and suddenly felt an overwhelming urge while in the alcohol aisle to give up. The next day (Monday) I still felt the same... I asked my husband if he wanted me to get him some beer for that evening as he was having friends round and to my shock he said "I don't fancy any if you don't"

HE LOVES his beer and would have a couple of cans every night!!...

Anyway, we haven't touched a drop since and have no urge to. We had a BBQ on Sunday and we drank juice!! This is unheard of for us as we would usually have a few beers and I'd share wine with my friend.. she had the wine to herself and even she was puzzled why I didn't fancy any.

I don't know if my 'vibe' influenced him or not but we haven't been discussing giving up much... maybe last year before my op we said we should cut down but it seems odd that we have both suddenly simply lost the desire.

Anyone else have this happen?

Another thing... since giving up I have noticed that my usual 4 hour a night sleep is more like 6 hours a night... I'm still shocked about that as I haven't slept longer than 4 hours a night for YEARS!

Try cutting back like to 8 then six, four, two a night kind of thing. Do it before you really wack out, it truly is a slippery slope. Your body and brain will feel so much better trust me. You'll look better too, especially your skin and face.
