Quoting: MishkaMouse I'm not planning to but am thinking what about parties.. if I have one will I want more? LOL Yes I do, but only if I go out for dinner somewhere nice, which only happens a couple of times a year. I went about 10 years getting blotto every night, so I figure if I don't drink it that often, when I do drink, I drink really really good wine - which is a better hangover.... cheap wine hang over is NASTY. I still have issues controlling my intake when I do drink. The last time was a couple of months ago, and if my husband hadn't have dragged me home I would have just kept drinking. |

I did and it was the most horrible experience of my life. I went through DTS and heard voices in my head...constantly. I went into seizures and had to go to ER. I would highly suggest weaning off. People, those DTS are no joke, I seriously thought I was going insane. I felt like I was in a really horrible "Pink Floyd" video. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1333357 Some people that I know that quit before will still have 1 or 2 a night but I have no desire at all. The DTS took care of any craving or desire for alcohol. It even makes me sick to smell it now, close up. I'm glad that I quit for myself but everyone in my family still drinks, makes me feel a little odd. |

You said you had a couple of drinks a night, so you should be fine. For other people though...If you drink more than 3 or 4 you should not go cold turkey. Congradulations! However, I've never seen anything wrong with drinking a glass of wine a night, even though I don't now. I actually have heard that a couple of drinks a night of beer or wine are good for you. |

I'd finish a bottle of 12% wine a night... more if it was here or if we had guests round. Hubby was the same... at least 4 pints a night or a quart of Vodka. I was definitely on the WRONG side of coping.... we both were. No DT's whatsoever... the whole thing is baffling me... no night sweats, no DT's, no cravings... the odd wistful "hmm a glass of wine would be good now" is quickly told to get lost by another inner voice. I have NO idea how we are doing this or why... I am just amazed and grateful that we are.. and I really hope I don't wake up and find it's been a dream... I'm now day 11 without ANY alcohol... eleven days was UNHEARD of over the last 24 years.. 1 day maybe but only if I had a hangover! lol Hell I even discharged myself from hospital after a major operation in December so I could go have a glass or few of wine lol urgh... makes me feel dirty now... what a clutz I was! |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1469248 I doubt it.. I have a BIG family and 2 busy businesses to run.. I doubt anything or one would see me as suitable to cope with anything else lol I tell you what though... not having that wine in the kitchen that I go to over and over is strange.. feels like a member of the family is missing!! |

You'll look younger and prettier, you'll stay out of the hospital and think of all the money you'll save. And you won't fall down the stairs or pass out and burn the house down. The list goes on. |
Vision Thing User ID: 12855271 United States 03/28/2012 10:59 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Oh if I had a 'sudden urge' to quit anything recently, it was coffee, but because it is having a bad effect on me. I really didn't want to quit. I switched to green tea. I feel like such a lightweight but you have to listen to your body. People don't, they go to the doctor instead and take drugs. Not up for that, for sure. I had a little weak coffee yesterday and it just isn't the thing. It makes me kind of sad, makes me feel old, can't eat super hot spicy food anymore either, but what can you do, I want to feel good, I don't want to feel crummy and I don't want to have health problems, so I have to do what it takes. |

I'm 9 days off the alcohol and 11 days vegan myself and I've honestly never felt better. |

Chocolate gives you quick energy and helps to soothe the receptors craving the drink. Good for you and your hubby! For me to drink is to die. I don't want to die so there ya go. Quoting: Riggsalent I used sugared orange slices at first eating one every time I had the urge to drink. Now I don't have the urges but I love my Merci chocolate. I also liked a cold beer and would drink a Coke with sugar instead of the beer and that would nix those beer cravings. I got a 26 year chip at my AA meeting last night. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 13571078 Canada 03/31/2012 05:36 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Great thread OP, thanks! Very timely. It's been a week today without alcohol for me. Last time I drank I ended up with a major hangover that lasted 2 days ugh. I was so upset with myself again...and swore, never again, this needs to stop! Coincidentally, a few days ago, Wednesday evening, I'm flipping channels while in bed and come across that documentary "There's something wrong with Aunt Diane" (The Diane Schuler story about the accident on the Taconic Parkway in NYS 2009 that killed 7 people (4 were kids) along with herself). It's a horrific story that got to me really bad. Any one struggling with alcohol should look into this story, it really will help make you think along with scaring you to death, no pun intended. It did that to me anyways. Here's a couple of links about it. [link to www.thefix.com] [link to en.wikipedia.org] |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 13181746 United States 03/31/2012 08:24 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | In 5 days it will be 2 months off the sauce for me. For the last 15 or so years, I've been drinking steadily. And not just for the taste, but to get wasted. Over the last few years it got progressively worse and I couldn't remember jack-shit of what was happening while drinking. The black outs became common to every time I drank. Beer or liquor or wine, didn't matter. I all of a sudden got the urge to quit drinking. Sticking with it seems to be easier than I thought. Been to a few BBQ's with ice chests full of PBR and Bud light, passed on it for water. Went out to the bar close by with a few friends on ST Patty's day and had nothing but water. I'm also a month off of the tobacco, as well. I'm glad I am doing this. Mentally and physically I feel better. No more hangovers, twisting guts, all that shit. |

WildStyle User ID: 13563108 Thailand 04/01/2012 09:56 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Read an interesting post from another GLP user 'in5d' today ( Thread: Dolores Cannon 5D Earth is Here! ) that talks more with Dolores Cannon about the earth and people changing, as the planet moves into a new dimension. In the interview Dolores mentions that this year around February time there was an acceleration in the transition, that some people would have felt and changed with it. This coincides with the time that I gave up drinking this year, out of the blue.. in February and is pretty close to you own transition OP. Whether or not you believe in the stuff Dolores Cannon talks about, it is a proven fact that the earths vibrational frequency is changing.. and so that will be affecting people. I'd quite like to think this is true and that it will bring more positive changes into my own and other peoples lives. // WildStyle Last Edited by WildStyle on 04/01/2012 09:58 AM We are all the walking wounded in a world that is a war zone. Well I haven't been here much as I am really busy with work but I can back today and apart from seeing my upgrade runs out in a few days...boooo... I wanted to say both hubby and I are still 100% alcohol free! YAY!! Sunday will be three weeks.. which might not sound like much to some but if you are used to killing 7 bottles of wine in a week then you realise you;ve saved your body from 21 bottles of wine... cheese! That's a lot of poison my poor liver has been saved from. Hubby is drinking the occasional Becks Blue which is 0% my biggest worry is tomorrow I have a meal planned which needs red wine in it.. I bought a small carton of wine (about one glass worth) and hope the smell of it wont drive me into it... Hubby says to not cook it... but I like the cooked taste of the casserole as do the family... heyulp! lol Mishka..xx PS: will give out my karma to those 5 above this post... xx |
