Quoting: MishkaMouse Well I haven't been here much as I am really busy with work but I can back today and apart from seeing my upgrade runs out in a few days...boooo... I wanted to say both hubby and I are still 100% alcohol free! YAY!! Sunday will be three weeks.. which might not sound like much to some but if you are used to killing 7 bottles of wine in a week then you realise you;ve saved your body from 21 bottles of wine... cheese! That's a lot of poison my poor liver has been saved from. Hubby is drinking the occasional Becks Blue which is 0% my biggest worry is tomorrow I have a meal planned which needs red wine in it.. I bought a small carton of wine (about one glass worth) and hope the smell of it wont drive me into it... Hubby says to not cook it... but I like the cooked taste of the casserole as do the family... heyulp! lol Mishka..xx PS: will give out my karma to those 5 above this post... xx Great to hear MishkaMouse , I will be three weeks on Tuesday . |
Fatstogie User ID: 1315794 United States 04/07/2012 03:32 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I've enjoyed alcohol for 24 years now. When I was younger I'd get be silly with it and get drunk but as I matured I would simply enjoy a glass or two of wine or a beer on a summers day etc etc. Quoting: MishkaMouse Never really thought of any health implications or worried much about my intake. Anyway, on the 17th March as I sipped the last of my Merlot I thought about getting in some other types of wine the next day ready for the arrival of my In-Laws from America next month.. I woke on the 18th and suddenly felt an overwhelming urge while in the alcohol aisle to give up. The next day (Monday) I still felt the same... I asked my husband if he wanted me to get him some beer for that evening as he was having friends round and to my shock he said "I don't fancy any if you don't" HE LOVES his beer and would have a couple of cans every night!!... Anyway, we haven't touched a drop since and have no urge to. We had a BBQ on Sunday and we drank juice!! This is unheard of for us as we would usually have a few beers and I'd share wine with my friend.. she had the wine to herself and even she was puzzled why I didn't fancy any. I don't know if my 'vibe' influenced him or not but we haven't been discussing giving up much... maybe last year before my op we said we should cut down but it seems odd that we have both suddenly simply lost the desire. Anyone else have this happen? Another thing... since giving up I have noticed that my usual 4 hour a night sleep is more like 6 hours a night... I'm still shocked about that as I haven't slept longer than 4 hours a night for YEARS! Mishka xx Seems to be the way it goes. I stopped drinking 1/13/10. Im 27 now so previous to that one would say i was alcoholic if i had not been young. But steadily drinking heavily, every day. Probably a 12'er a day, usually at the bar though. Then just stopped outta nowhere. And i had quit smoking cigs months before that too. It does seem to be the way it sorta happens. |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 4063836 United Kingdom 04/10/2012 10:51 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I stopped smoking and drinking in December 2011 Quoting: Gezel 1959077 And I'm slowly becoming vegetarian and I know of others that are also stopping drinking smoking, eating meat. Is something going on ??? Could people be changing ??? One love, one race peace and love all x Weird that you say that but I came back today to add some more news... lol I started to eat 'some' meat back in 2001 for some reason... things like salami, chorizo, roast duck, lamb on the odd occasion... Well the other day I roasted a duck, sat down with the family to eat it and as I stuck my fork in my head yet again (just like the alcohol one) shouted NO DON'T consume this!!! I tried to cut a slice off and go to eat it and my throat just slammed shut and I couldn't swallow the bit of potato I had in my mouth so I knew putting the duck in was a no no... So I said to myself ok no duck ... then I carried on and eat the rest of the veggies.. The duck was eaten by my son. I know that I wont ever be able to eat it again... the feelings in me weren't of anger or hatred for the meat... just a simple "I no longer eat this"... and I LOVE duck!! or rather I did.... *shrug* I am mostly pescatarian so haven't had a chance to see if salami etc etc do the same to me but what on earth? I better not go off fish!! I adore fishhhhhhhh! 3 weeks 3 days without alcohol today and I feel fine.. not bothered at all! Mishka xx |

So tomorrow I will buy iron rich foods and some oranges! Will now go and share out my green karma to those above who have posted... xx Mishka xx Keep it up. For me after a while stress no longer became an issue either. Alcohol as a way to deal with stress was more like a prescription to help you live wiht the pain, not a cure. I dont have stress at all anymore. I mean i might get mad or upset but its for very short periods of time now. I dont get stressed about work or anything at all. Not to say i wont ever drink again. But im just saying if you do, make sure its because you want to,not because its "stress relief." Theres where metering the dose becomes a problem because your doing it for "relief" as opposed to enjoyment. Good job holding out. But careful about "stress relief" thoughts. Because excuses can be the gateway that is the one that gets out of control. So if you do decide to drink, make no excuses about it. Not "stress relief" or something "i deserve today." Its not a reward or something. Stress is relieved by the self, not by any substance. If you do drink, do it for fun cause you want to. Dont make excuses to yourself about it. LOL But good job holding out. NOt being discouraging, just saying you will still be in danger with "stress relief" line of thinking. Get that outta there! lol Must find new stress relief. I highly recommend not having stress at all. LOL But seems to come easier to me than everyone else. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 14596164 Canada 04/22/2012 12:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well for me, it seems my body can't handle alcohol anymore. I never drank allot, except when partying. I could drink a 26er of Vodka in one night, and still be alive in the morning, with a slight hangover. Now, I'm allergic to vodka out of nowhere. If I even have a sip, I will have a migraine for 24 hrs that even ibprophen can't kill. Wine has started having the same effect. I switched to white Rum, and the other day I got a small headache from that too, and that was only 1 ounce. So I don't know what's going on with me, but nothing seems to sit well. I like drinking, so I'm not liking this to much. I thought maybe it's a wheat issue because I don't do well with wheat either. Hmmmm, I'm just a mess I guess! |

I'm a bit blah at the moment... we have Hubbies Father and his companion over from the States and they keep talking about booze... apparently she has a drink every night after work to 'wind down' and he joins her... I said yeah but you don't HAVE to have it do you? She replied that she HAS to wind down after work.... I suggested it was bordering on alcohol dependency if she HAD to use the drink to wind down... she wasn't impressed. She's in her 60's and probably thinks I'm a silly girl.. oh well. Anyway, apart from them banging on about wine and vodka hubby and I are still doing good. He shared some 2% lager with his father last night.... I am still alcohol free! Off to share some alcohol free green love karma with the people above ... lets share the karma love! Mishka xx |
