ONLY 40-60-year old GLPers...... IS time speeding for you too?

ok, i'm 36 so younger than the age group that the OP is asking the question to.

My thoughts on this subject is that yes, our perception of time is speeding up but i think it's because of the speed of modern technology rather than anything to do with time itself.

The reason why younger people are noticing it too is beacause technology is developing faster now than it ever has for previous generations.

I am 50 and I chuckle every time I observe the sweep second hand of my Seiko watch (a self winder)......it looks like it is on fast forward, a day seems to go nowhere ...it is time for hot chocolate and slippers in no time.

I swear if someone from the 18th century was to come forward in time he would think he was watching a movie on fast forward, or that we move around like we got rockets up our arses, or he had been taking too much Chinese Opium !!

I last looked at the clock at 13.00 gmt when I started this reply now it is 15.10gmt ...... shit !!!

I agree with you on the usage of technology. I am going to be 43 and find that if I turn off all tv, pc's, etc. and work garden or home time is slowed down. The other day I did a 15-30 minute test using phone timer/alarm..it was amazing what I got done and how time seemed endless...lol.
Maybe I was just fooling the clock?

And some days...I work from home get on PC at 9am and in a flash it's 3pm.

I am planning on shutting it down more in the future, I hope. ha.

Enough humor.. I am 65 and I have no idea how I got here so fast. But the days are flying by, I get up go through my normal coffee news feed the livestock, and its dinner time! I can not believe how fast the days go!

I'm almost 62 and have been physically disabled since 2008. I basically stay home and do not much of anything. I thought time would slow down. The exact opposite has happened and I can't believe the years that have disappeared.

If I had to offer advice on making time go slower, I'd suggest that you try to make important memories for yourself. It's a way to measure and mark time for yourself. At some point in your future you'll be coming back looking for yourself.

Yes...but not fast enough...you know when you see something spin so fast that it actually looks like it is spinning backwards....well I'll take a little bit of that! :-)

You are spot on, my youngest left home a few months back and I still cook for a family of five, one minute its Start Rite shoes and school dinners the next its motorbikes and dating, my oldest girl went to uni five minutes ago it feels like, but she has already been teaching two years soon. The last five years have been a blur of time passing and life changes, I have barely had time to draw breath and often find myself thinking I was ready for this next stage. There should be a book of handy hints to get us through it without it hurting so much

maybe 20-30 years ago you have a few things to handle in a day..now you have to go cinema with friends,shopping malls,or parties(for the party guys) or you have deal with new internet lifestyle.U have check them and sometimes it tooks hours to realizethat enough you are sitting in front of screen.

Or nowadays we KNOW lots of thing about tech,politics,laws,news,music,art..our brain is plating an illuision about this


i couldnt explain fully but u know,we have lots of things to divide our brain into the pieces and think about them...

maybe thats why it goes faster ?

im 28 and i still trying get a job which i will be HAPPY :/ of course i wont but what can i do =)

i think i'll work until 50 to retire from wherever i'work (a public job or in a company or open my own shop)

As technology expands, our sense of "time" speeds up.

I think this is primarily due to never having enough hours in the day to do whatever it is we need to do. No matter what do, there is always more to do.

Think about it for a minute. Once, most humans had to walk to get somewhere. Then along came horses, suddenly we could go farther on the same about of time.

Now were driving cars and able to travel great distances on the same about of time. In relativity, distance equals time. The farther we travel, the more time passes.

I attribute the passage of time to traveling more and being constantly in communication with many people.

Yes it is...I am 61 years old & only began noticing time speeding up since last year's Arab Spring and the Japan tsunami. The Mayan/Indigenous American Indian tribes say that we have experienced the 9th Wave as it peaked in October 2011. By all accounts, this new wave is both separate and inclusive with the other 8 waves which continue to pulse outward just as the ripples in water get closer and closer after the inital pebble is dropped into the pond.
