Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 13242495 Australia 03/26/2012 04:40 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | In Sheridan, Wyoming, I've smelled pure elemental "S" sulphur a few times unexpectedly. Smelled it in my house, and that's just wrong. Not the "rotten egg" smell of H2SO4, but pure ~elemental. It must have come from underground. I'm just about 200 miles from Yellowstone caldera. Quoting: shenandoah 2636202 This smells likes plain sulphur too |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 11995489 United States 03/26/2012 04:51 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | H2S (hydrogen sulfide) reacts with ozone (and is destroying our ozone layer, btw, so stuff is gonna get even more UV-fried than it already is). The reaction is H2S + O3 => H2O + O2 + S. Note the S there - that is elemental sulfur, which will drift down as the H2S destroys our ozone layer. More info: [link to jumpingjackflashhypothesis.blogspot.com] Lots of science links with the full hypothesis (not the shorter summary), so you can see how this extinction event works. Also, no ads - I will not profit from the dying and suffering of my fellow human beings. |

alexisj9 User ID: 1376880 United Kingdom 03/26/2012 05:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Underground sulphur springs are a feature of the landscape in central Ky. We're located 80 to 100 miles from underground cave systems such as Mammoth and others. And yes, there's sulphur and then there's "S" sulphur. One flavor is rotten eggs and the other flavor is pure pig poo. The smells increase ahead of any low pressure weather system. Quoting: soulsurvivor Would you worry if this happened in London? Not the rotten egg one, the other type? Just before low pressure systems too. |
