Dachshunds are fun. We have a smaller one, not a mini but smaller. She is a few years old, but still acts like a puppy and just loves to play. She is affectionate and will follow people all over the house. She'd like to sleep in the bed with us, but she does have a tendency to chew when bored.

For such a small dog, she can generate a lot of heat. This is good for in the winter to snuggle with her, but she is too hot to snuggle with in the summer.

She loves a squeaky ball and will play with it by herself but likes to have someone throw it. We had another Dachshund that had learned to climb the steps, drop the ball down the stairs, and then go after it. He'd go up and down the stairs all day and amuse himself with his ball. He'd like a person to throw the ball but if you got tired of throwing it, he'd just use the stairs. She never learned this although she saw him doing it. The male would bring you the ball and let you take it from him. She would bring it to you but drop it before she got to you. I can't get her to actually give it to me. She just runs to me with the ball and then drops it near me.

We have a dog run in the yard and she goes out to use the bathroom and chase squirrels. We have moles in the yard and she likes to try to dig them up. She is just doing what she is bred to do, go after small rodents.

When we go to bed at night sometimes she gets to sleep with one of us, but mostly she has to go into her kennel. She doesn't like it but doesn't fuss to much. She only whines if she has to pee, then someone has to get up in the middle of the night to let her go out. It isn't every night though. She can sleep all night without bothering anyone. Someone is usually up in the morning early to let her go out.

She's a good dog and doesn't really shed. She does get an odor sometimes and needs a bath.

I have heard that Dachshunds can be aggressive and I can see this is true. She is a little thing but will aggressively bark at other dogs or any strangers that come near our house. She loves all the family and people that she knows.

If you are ever mean to a Dachshund they will not forget it.
If they love you, they won't forget you either.
