...

you show your age ac.
you also show your lack of knowledge in geo-politics and history.
Tell me, how long has the stock markets been around in let's say the last 6000 years?

hahaha look I just spiked your fear your emotional short coming and you are responding like an auto bot lmao
Its funny how when I joke on the internet I get told im young, but when im serious, I get told im old.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 11475650

do you know what the average lifespan of a fiat currency is?
then look at how old your currency is and look at what you have invested in it. Can you see it, touch it, does it have a 6000 year history?

Friend from across the pond, this little freakshow is not worth arguing with. He is a long term troll who spends his useless excuse for a life harassing people on GLP.

Any attempts at educating the freak just soars over his head. There are others on here who are genuinely curious & want to learn; share you knowledge with them.

Re: Stock Market No Longer Responds Correctly
Its seems everyone is missing the point. The more turmoil there is in the bond/derivative/currency market, the more stocks will go up.

Imagine you have 100 million dollars in a bank. You have some choices:

1. keep it in the bank and hope it doesn't go out of business.
2. buy gov't treasuries and hope they don't default
3. buy shares of stock in McDonalds, Walmart etc

Smart money is now going to option 3. If everything crashes, even if we are trading cigarettes instead of dollars, McDonalds will be in business, and you have put your money on something with real value in the real economy.

Capice?

Wow, really? McDonalds has absolutely ZERO real value.

Once (/if) people globally wake up, they will realise it is the most shitty and poisonous company ever.

Has anyone else noticed that the stock market no longer responds to any type of news correctly? Greece defaults and the market goes up. BMW issues a huge 1.3 million vehicle recall and the BMW company stock goes up. The fed has destroyed the stock market by buying up bonds. Banks hold bonds and sell them which gives them more liquidity. Trillions upon trillions of dollars have been infused. Now the stock market can not correct. All that is left is for the market to collapse. Then not even the Bernake's trillions will be able to save it.

It's only the Robo-trading
Robots don't care about anything

Over 50% (maybe more) of the orders and trades are done by Robots.
Look at BATS or Apple last friday ... how can Apple Flashcrash nearly 10% (50 billions) and no one cares? Because only fucking Robots are trading.

And liquidi comes from the Fed. Yes the markets are broken.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 13313663

Actually the number of robo trades is over 90%. If you have money in the market and are not an insider you will eventually get skinned.

Once the puter program is in place to prevent insider trading (which is such a load of shit to begin with). Then and only then will we see a steady decline. I'm way up on the market and have been out since 2007. Them annoucing that they were inside trading to begin with, has got me more pissed off than the markets itself. Everyone of the politicians and their families ought to be in jail.

The market is now completely controlled, that is why I do not even bother to discuss it much anymore.

For those who have made good money in this bubble, please put in hard stops to protect your gains from the inevitable plummet. When will this plummet happen? I do not know -- just take cae with what you have & I congratulate you on your good fortune.

This is really sound advice. HFT's are running non stop, so algorithms designed to respond to certain buzz words from media outlets are doing the thinking in lieu of traders. The markets are rigged. Why do you think a four star general met with top trading officials on the floor on wall street after the crash of 2008? Hint: It wasn't to talk about the finer points of cigar smoking. Good luck to all and congratulations to those who have had the coconuts to ride this wave and come out alive. Please mind your stop losses and make sure they are reinforced concrete. All we know in this life is that there was a beginning, we're in the middle, and there WILL be an end. Good morning M'Lady. Excellent advice IMHO.

The Market does not move on Fundamentals any more, 75% of all trades are robo trades.

Computers trading with computers. Stealing pennies, billions of them.

So called hedge funds whom leverage billions into 10's of Billions daily.

Complex algorithms designed to manipulate stock prices.

This is why Apple/Google won't split their stock, the lower the share price of the stock, the easier it is to manipulate.

Robbing long term investors of value with massive day trading by hedge fund computers.

It's a fools bet, they legalized market manipulation, price fixing and dumping.

One day, the markets will correct, some massive event will plunge values across the board, these over leveraged hedge funds and day traders will not be able to cover the day loans.

The too big to fail Banks will fail, they the ones making the day loans, they'll lose 10's if not 100's of Billions in seconds.

yep, peoples pension money is being stolen every day through those hedge funds and the 'layer cake' that is the derivatives/bond market.
The elite are taking out the good debt & turning it into hard assets by swapping it with the bad debt funny money (QE). They are also doing the same thing for their bonuses. Just wait until people get 'balances' on their 401k or their UK pension funds.gasp

I used to play the market too but I gave up on it. It became fools game to try to figure out what stocks would move and when. They are clearly being manipulated. Just look at Apple. Steve Jobs, the man behind all of Apple's big inventions, dies and now the stock is up by hundreds of dollars. How?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12761705

The stock market has a ton of rotted flesh that needs to be cut out of it, but your utilization of Apple as an example of market irregularity is totally looking in the opposite direction of the problem.

It is good you stop playing the market, if Apple's stock price looks to be some magic trick of late.

The only problems with Apple stock are that it is at a market cap that it is not worth playing for investors of modest means and that it isn't a value (i.e. not selling at a discount).

The problem is complicated, yet simple. Companies like apple are not the problem. The problem is all rooted in areas such as monetized debt, futures and the abuses of shorting.

Whereas Apple is a tangible asset to purchase. It is actually an example of what investing should be about. 10-12 years ago, it was a wonderful value stock, that many people made a lot of money off of (including many wise investors, that back then were of modest means).

I would actually argue the way the market has been behaving the past couple years may be a good sign. People have learned much from '08. They no more crap needs to be coughed out of the market and they are being very careful where they place their money now. Which is putting much more of the pressure on people higher up in the scams being left holding the bag, rather than the market at large.

Not a shill, but I read these posts scaring people (and I agree people should be concerned and nervous) and I hear people who are absolutely talking out of their ass in regards to investing and the market scaring the carp out of people.

There are problems. Central banks should not be in the hands of large, corporate banks. Also, the Corzine deal was even worse than the media reported (i.e. the connection to J.P. Morgan). These central banks should be stopped from suckering countries into debt, so they can take control and then sell the sovereign assets off to corporate interests.

Things are f*cked up, but don't make the problem bigger than it already is.

It's the same game it has always been, it's a matter of scale.

Most of the Trades are done with borrowed money, leveraging.

The market will correct, crash. We know this will happen, it always does. We live in a very complex World, the more Governments try to control it with centralized power structures, the worse the disasters.

Your talking about electronic digits here. The digits are potentially infinite and can be invented by anyone in a position to do so. Since the digits can be traded for hard goods or services the digits have value. In a sense, people who make up digits and purchase with them are buying something for nothing.

Banks are pumping trillions of dollars into economies through Government debt. Inflating earnings and GDP in Nations that have unfunded liabilities, and debt to GPD rato's that are unsustainable.

The Markets are reacting to stimulus, as we expect them too, sooner or later the Game is up. Governments can not continue to pump monies into markets forever.

Living on borrowed time.

Re: Stock Market No Longer Responds Correctly
UK company then:

you had an engineering company. The company had several buildings, 1000 employees and a lot of equipment and physical stock. The employees were of mixed ages, people worked at the company most or all of their lives. The company had a positive bank balance and no debt. The staff recieved good wages and good working conditions. The staff had minimal personal debt. They all have a pension to look forward to.
This company got all it's materials from the UK and sold nearly all of it's goods back to the UK, the rest to the world. That company banked with a UK bank and all assets were held in the UK. All tax was paid to the UK treasury.

current (1970) company worth = £20 million
current real company worth = all hard assets + all cash in bank - any debt

UK company now:

you have a service company, selling services to UK The majority of the staff are either young foreign or UK under 21 years old. They all have massive amounts of debt. They have poor pay and poor working conditions. The comapny has no cash at hand and massive debts secured on property that is tottaly underwater. The staff pension money has been leveraged into hedge funds. The company has no hard assets apart from the highly leveraged head office and satellite call centres (some of these are leased). The company files tax returns in 3 different countries and pays little or no tax to the UK treasury.

current stock market valuation = £200 million
current real company worth = negative

now, which company is worth more in real terms?

The market is obviously controlled and share prices represent the value of a company. If there was no control it would not work!

I think you mean manipulated, which it is and always has been. Our money is known as the 'Stupid Money' in the city, and they want it and will pull all the tricks they can to get it - It's far more common in AIM markets than the FTSE though

That said, there is still plenty of money to be made, Much better than getting a real job! I highly reccomend reading the naked trader, a decent book to get you started

I have been at this since the onset of the .com thing when I was in Grad School. I am positioned to do well regardless of how the stock market moves. Not everyone in here has been tarding since the mid 90s , hence my advice on hard stops.

Edit: Oops! Meant to say trading, lol!! Some of us have been "tarding" for a while too, for that matter :o)

I've been tarding since birth. That's how I roll. :)

Where's Zazz anyway? This seems like troll paradise for him.

Sorry, but a company shrouded in debt, thats what it will be seen as on the stock market

You seem to think they use imaginitive figures
