Re: Black out in all Guatemala allready 3 hours without electricity
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, sea. 27, 2012. - Failure of a transmission line of electricity located in northern Guatemala today caused a prolonged nationwide blackout which, according to authorities, could be resolved in the coming hours.

The spokesman for the National Institute of Electrification (INDE), Mariana Tenas, told reporters that the blackout, which began at about 09.15 local time (15.15 GMT), was caused by "bugs" not specified in a transmission line Chixoy plant, located in the community of San Cristobal Verapaz Alta in the north.

Authorities said the repair of the damage could last for several hours, so it is expected to continue this Central American country without electric service indefinitely.

Guatemalan Vice President, Roxana Baldetti, through his Twitter account, said that in various parts of the country has begun to restore service sporadically.

The lack of electricity has caused chaos in road networks of major cities, while hospitals and alternate care working with plants in the areas of emergency, operating theaters and intensive care.

Re: Black out in all Guatemala allready 3 hours without electricity
the way a electricity grid work , it a little like internet in a sense where it can have multiple source and multiple output.
All grid at a country level will have MULTIPLE source , i'm surprise to learn that you can loose ALL source in one moment without ionization process.

Maybe they had absolute no surge protection and 1 source failed, overloading all other source , then the grid when completely off , but seriously no protection at all on anyone links, thats very very hard to believe.

I'm no engineer in electricity so if anyone see mistake in what i say please correct and explain.

Re: Black out in all Guatemala allready 3 hours without electricity
It's all good here. Was a little odd to lose power, as that rarely happens in middle-class and well-to-do areas.

I did wonder is there was a "message" sent somehow. The new Prez here wants to legalize drugs to stop the violence. Napolitano was here recently to tell him it was a very bad idea. They've been pressuring him to drop the "legalize it" rhetoric.

Interestingly, before the power went out, I was reading the paper here regarding yet another meeting with US and Guatemalan officials. The US rep, William Brownfield, hilariously said, and I translate "In the US, we have analyzed the concept (legalization), and we agree it doesn't work, not because of moral or psychological reasons, health reasons, delinquency, or criminality." There was a huge WTF, as he didn't offer any argument against legalization either. Some here were wondering if he meant the answer was money, guns, and lethal force.

Oh well. And to the retards cracking on the country, go watch some YouTube videos. This place has attractions that put the US to shame. Sure, it's a 3rd world country, but they are proud, independent people and have always tried to do what's right for them.

They have 10,000 small running cages for squirrels. There was actually a virus that went through the grid, they all got sick and died. There's a mad rush to find replacements. I hear they are even considering genetically modified squirrels that eat less and can't stop running. Soon as they get their order, power will resume.

The word Indefinite, and the term "several hours" don't go in the same sentence. What kind of article is that, pretty messed up one!!!!

I am being serious here.. I really am so please take me seriously and not as a nut-nut.. I was wondering if there had been any reports of "UFO's" over the area? I have been doing research on interesting situations and some have claims that before electrical interference of any sort there had been "sightings" of ufo's (for those of you who want to make fun of me- UFO's- unidentified flying objects) I am just curious..
Also, I would love to visit a country as intriguing as yours!
