In all my long years of being alive, i have never seen the upside down moon. Now, i've seen it three times. The latest being tonight.
But i guess that's better than NO moon, i reckon.

Not at all, the moon's shadow on northern hemisphere is (was) changing all the time from right to the left on moon phases (waxing crescent moon is the first illuminated portion after the new moon). And It NOT rotate from a positon to another one like you think is, again you can find this info on books too.

The moon does not chase the sun about its illumination. The moon is illuminated all the same time on half portion from a wide portion of the space (so the illumination source is NOT near: the moon is not effecting itself on illumination angle degrees by the sun at all).

Rotating a bit, is just an visual effect that you can notice near the equator regions only because of large angle on that area of the earth, I said this several times and again you can find this info on books too.

You'll never find: "the moon on crescent phases is partially illuminated from the below because the sun." (roftl)
