You used quarters that are 90% silver and 10% copper. The shiny is because they are proof coins which are preferred by collectors. On EBay a roll of these ones would go for about two hundred bucks but a whole roll of proofs could get more. Congratulations, you now have a very expensive clean laundry collection. Wear it well.
