What is the significance of the Mayan Calendar & the 'End' of the Mayan Calendar?

He said (and this stunned me because it is so 'new age' sounding and he's basically as skeptical as it gets) that the Mayans wrote everything down for us... so that when it happens, we would be ready to change ourselves. We have to change ourselves voluntarily. That a bright white light will come down from the sky and we need to be outside in the light when it happens in order to get what we need to 'go to the next step'.

After the session, we talked a bit and he speculated that it would mean those who don't (go into the light) would be left behind and the rest would become the 'new' human. That's when I started telling him about 'Ascension' and stuff that I personally thought was all baloney (until now... now I need to sit down and re-evaluate, I guess~).
