| Isis One User ID: 1978809 04/01/2012 01:12 AM ![]() Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I live in NE Pa. I heard/felt it too, brought me right outside to have a look around. At 11:00 pm, first thing on the news was how people were calling in from all over the place to report their houses rattling. The weather guy explained it off as thunder. I wouldn't have been too sure but then I saw on spaceweather.com (3-31-12)that "sprites" were spotted over Oaklahoma and I thought, maybe thats what we had here. Sprites are lightening bolts that travel skyward (rather than earthward) fromt he tops of big storm clouds. They can go up as far as 9 kilometers whcih qualifies them as space-weather. So I figured that these bolts are bigger than cloud to ground bolts and probably have a sonic-type boom to them. The weird thing though, is there are usually never seen this early in the spring. Generally seen in the summer when its much warmer. Isis One |

Didn't sound like thunder, didn't feel like thunder, was wondering if something happened on 380/80; tanker accident," wrote Gilda Spiotta of Long Pond. Another Long Pond resident, Lorene R. Allman-Mars, wrote: "My son was at the back door letting the dogs out and he reported that he saw a large flash of light fill the sky toward/above the FedEx distribution site on 940, then he heard a loud boom. It didn't look like lightning, it looked like a bomb blew up in the air. I was on the second floor of the house; I didn't see anything but I heard the boom and felt it shake the house. The floors shook; I have never felt lightning shake the house like that before and we've been up here 20 years!" Some readers suggested an earthquake or an explosion, but said that definitely was no routine thunder. Russo Albuja of Tobyhanna said,"I was driving along 196 on my way home from work when I felt the BOOM. It was so extreme, my car shook and on my left hand side on an empty field - all I saw was this HUGE flash of light coming from where the airport location would be at." Jill Nobles: "It sure felt like an explosion or an earthquake to me. I am up near Wooddale, by Analomink on the top of the mountain. At 10:12-ish, my whole house shook. It knocked things off of the counters, rattled things hanging on my walls, and shook my whole house violently. The sound was like an explosion, or a freight train in my bedroom." Phillip Mangat: "Yeah around 10:35 I thought another meth lab went boom!!!" [link to www.poconorecord.com] |

Was looking down at my phone when there was a flash and a long rumble. The rumble was changing frequency over short durations and what was weird was that it was coming from one direction of the sky for several seconds then abruptly sounded like it shifted localization in the sky... Definitely a weird rumble. "Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it." |

This is about the Poconos and obviously up/down the Appalachian Mountain range. By plugging threads like that, some may dismiss this (if they're stupid, clumping them together), thus, it loses its chance at exposure, pinning, etc. Old news, from two days ago? What a dumbass. Not only are you not right, your not even wrong. |

Although probably thunder it was unusual in its sound and long duration. It was enough for the wife to say it didn't sound like thunder and for me to step outside to listen. On radar there was rain coming in from the West so I dismissed it, but yes it seemed to go on and on at a low rumble. |
