All Gone To Look For America
Everyone has there own interpretation of the following song.
I used to listen to it in the seventies whenever we traveled.

[link to www.youtube.com]

I listened to it again today only because I had a dream set in an apocalyptic world where my sons came up to me wearing survival gear, sporting backpacks and I asked them, "where are you going?".

They said, "we are going to look for America" and I found myself asking "where is America?"

As a Christian, I've always felt a detachment from this world as my hope and belief is in the new world to come.

But today I felt a deep sadness in my soul for America and its future generation.

It was quite disturbing.

America as we know it continues to slip away.

Division is destroying us.

The corrupt political system continues to take away our freedom.

Most American citizens have become complacent thus making it easier for the stage to be set for the grand takeover.

It appears that the ones who do fight for what they believe is right--are wrong.

Who do you think said the following words?

"What is that American promise? It's a promise that says each of us has the freedom to make of our own lives what we will, but that we also have obligations to treat each other with dignity and respect.

Our government should work for us, not against us. It should help us, not hurt us. It should ensure opportunity not just for those with the most money and influence, but for every American who's willing to work."

That came from our President's acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention in 2008.

And remember these words from the First Lady?

“Let me tell you something. For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country, because it feels like hope is making a comeback.”

Well, I reply by saying

"For the first time in my adult life, I question whether I want to continue living in this country. I don't recognize it any longer. I have lost my hope for ever feeling any pride because of what it has become. I am concerned for our children's future and their safety. I am hurting. Where are you America?"

I know that I must continue to instill in my children the belief that America is still better than other countries but it is so hard to do when I'm having a hard time believing it myself.

Actually, I'm going to bed now, I'm weary.

Maybe I'll find America in my dreams.
However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task
the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace. Acts 20:24

"This man really is the Savior of the world!" John 4:42

Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him;
and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of him. So shall it be! Amen.
I am the Alpha and the Omega, " says the Lord God, who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty." Revelation 1:7

Farewell American Samoa, the "last stop of today and just a stones throw from tomorrow"and with that said and done I stood up, standing at the end of the day and walked boldly onward into tomorrow and to the given day of rest.

Thanks Michael,

I'm better today.

I went to pay my cable bill yesterday and, as usual, there was a long line of grumpy looking people.
I was having fun observing the playful antics of 2 young brothers and a cute girl that was standing in front of me.

Although they put a smile on my face, I couldn't help but think of what type of future lies ahead for them.
I think that gloomy thought stuck with me the rest of the day. I was actually on the verge of tears last night when I wrote the above.
Anyways,

Peace and love to you, too, and try to stay healthy.

Thanks for that. I've never seen that movie, "The Falcon and the Snowman". I heard it was good.

One of my sisters was crazy about David Bowie. She even named one of her six sons "Bowie".

Hello Tango,

You know, when I was growing up we sang a lot of patriotic songs. We recited "The Pledge of Allegiance" in school.

In my third grade class, my teacher always had a bible on his desk and we would pray before class.

Holidays were not only fun, but we said "Merry Christmas" with much cheer and no fear and many homes were decorated with nativity scenes. Skiing, sledding, skating, playing tag, hide go and seek, hop-scotch, tree-climbing, jump rope, board games, weekly movies kept us active and gave us a sense of well being.

We spent more time outside of the home then in it.

We communicated with each other face to face and knew our neighbors. We wrote letters or typed them out on a typewriter.

I could go on and on, but once again it is late and I'm tired.

This is not the America I use to know, is it the America you know?

Thanks for posting it!

"Hang on to your hopes, my friend
That's an easy thing to say, but if your hope should pass away
It's simply pretend

That you can build them again
Look around, the grass is high
The fields are ripe, it's the springtime of my life"

You couldn't have picked a better song and Bucky from American Idol is singing it.

This is my first time listening to it and I loved it!

I totally identified with the lyrics and it just about brought a tear to my eye.

How could I forget about stores being closed on Sundays and imagine if they were to do that today!?

Thanks so much for posting it.

Re: All Gone To Look For America
Good Morning,

I watched the following video this morning and was reminded of this thread I started back in April.

Thought it was appropriate to add it here:

Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise,
making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.

A few words from the video:

What we fail to realize is the government is our child and not our parent, as was most eloquently stated by President Dwight D. Eisenhower:

"Every step we take towards making the State caretaker of our lives, by that much we move toward making the State our Master."

Look at what we have become:

A free, self-determined, resourceful, independant people,
now a dependant, insecure, depressed, easily manipulated and a fearful shadow of our former selves".

25 Questions about What the Hell has Happened to America

When did...

1) ....Educated people become so unfamiliar with small business that they began to believe that a company will practically build itself as long as the government provides roads, street signs, and police?

2) ...Freedom change from something we should all be seeking to something we're supposed to be terrified to face without the government holding our hands?

3) ...We stop asking, "Can we afford this?" along with "Is this a good idea?" when it comes to government programs?

4) ...Demanding that people come to this country legally if they want to stay here and become citizens become too much to ask?

5) ....We start rewarding victims so richly for victimhood that we have to wonder if every unseen hate crime is real or a staged charade to receive public sympathy?

6) ...Sticking to the Constitution and living within our means become "extremism?"

7) ...The job of the press change from reporting the news to doing everything it can to help the Democratic Party?

8) ...It become okay to sue a company because some moron knowingly did something dangerous with the company’s product and hurt himself? That's not negligence; it's Darwinism at work.

9) ...Protecting some barren tundra in Alaska become worth more than thousands of jobs, billions of dollars in wealth created, and lower prices at the pump for the American people?

10) ....Hollywood change from supporting the troops in foreign wars to undercutting the war and smearing the troops as dangerous, mentally unstable drones?

11) ...We stop caring if government programs worked or not as long as they sound compassionate?

Re: All Gone To Look For America
God will not be mocked

America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.
~ Abraham Lincoln

America has forsaken her first love. She has finally, and fully, given herself over to a licentious Lothario with whom she has increasingly flirted since her youth. He is sin – and, notwithstanding full knowledge of who he is and what he intends, with him she has lain.

America has tasted the poisonous fruits of lust, pride, passion, and envy – sloth, frivolity, iniquity and entitlement. She has tasted of their sweet deception and found it irresistible. She has danced in the streets, intoxicated by the very poison that will be her undoing.

America has rebelled against God. She has shaken her fist at Him and arrogantly cried, “We don’t need you. We don’t want you. We know better than you. Now go away.”

And so He’s going away.

Indeed, they have invited God’s wrath. Our president has invited God’s wrath. We all, through act or omission, have invited God’s wrath.

“The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.”
(Romans 1:18-20)

We excuse sin. We call that which God calls an abomination, “equality.”

We call that which God calls murder, “reproductive choice.”

We call that which God calls theft, “fundamental fairness.”

We “call evil good and good evil.”

Re: All Gone To Look For America
This is the word that entered my mind, first thing this morning:

tyr·an·ny

1. A government in which a single ruler is vested with absolute power.
2. The office, authority, or jurisdiction of an absolute ruler.
3. Absolute power, especially when exercised unjustly or cruelly: "I have sworn . . . eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man" (Thomas Jefferson).
4.
a. Use of absolute power.
b. A tyrannical act.

[link to www.thefreedictionary.com]

And then the word "tyrant"

1
a : an absolute ruler unrestrained by law or constitution
b : a usurper of sovereignty
2
a : a ruler who exercises absolute power oppressively or brutally
b : one resembling an oppressive ruler in the harsh use of authority or power

Re: All Gone To Look For America
Then I come home from work and noticed that my son left this page open on the computer:

Why Accept Tyranny and Ruin?

The article first talks about someone's concept of America split down the middle, where the red lives on one side and the blue on the other.

It goes on to say:

No sober-thinking person wants Americans to divorce -- to separate into permanent red and blue Americas -- and for more than the kids' sake. Better to have an America united in liberty, prosperous through free enterprise, and safe from its enemies, domestic and foreign.

But that's not how the American left and its voters see the country; they have (in fact, have had since the early 20th century) a radically different vision for what America should be. And what America should be has little to do with Washington, Jefferson, and Madison and more to do with Hegel, Marx, and the architects who birthed modern corporatist Europe. Moreover, the American left -- typified by President Obama -- is dedicated to a diminution of the United States' power and role in the world. Call it "America the Lesser."

The critical question becomes: if the left remains ascendant; if its principles and policies continue to be ratified by voters in elections to come; if it continues to degrade the culture and morals of society; if the noose is drawn ever tighter around the throats of the individual; if the engine of our prosperity is further hamstrung and plundered, when will conservative America shout, "Enough!"? Why would right America "go gentle into that good night"? Why would conservative America accept tyranny -- albeit a soft tyranny -- and ruin? When is the tipping point reached?

The modern left has shed faith in God. God -- who is foundational to our rights and being as a nation. The left seeks, in fact, to infringe on the rights of churches and their agencies regarding the provision of contraceptive and abortion services. That's a first step in subordinating religion to the state. It has sought to drive and largely succeeded in driving out faith from the public square. It pushes to impose a smothering political correctness -- a tyranny on expression and action. It acts to hobble and punish enterprising and productive citizens and nurture government dependence. It's debauching the nation's currency, plundering the treasury, and adding debt atop debt.

Re: All Gone To Look For America
As Lincoln famously proclaimed before the Civil War: "A house divided against itself cannot stand." Lincoln further averred:

I believe this government cannot endure, permanently, half slave and half free. I do not expect the Union to be dissolved -- I do not expect the house to fall -- but I do expect it will cease to be divided. It will become all one thing or all the other. Either the opponents of slavery will arrest the further spread of it, and place it where the public mind shall rest in the belief that it is in the course of ultimate extinction; or its advocates will push it forward, till it shall become alike lawful in all the States, old as well as new -- North as well as South.
