The Mark of the Beast does represent a coming economic system which will involve technology, however it also does represent the deeds of the people and their state of spirit, the mark represents many things but the greatest of all is money which is also known as Mammon. Mammon being the beast the prince of this world the Son of the Devil whom will be the final Anti Christ. Now this system to come will be enforced and same time that it comes a law will be declared that anyone whom believes in God and Christ will be put to death. Those whom try save their life’s shall lose it for the new economy and world government that comes will be set-up in a way they will be forced to serve and worship the beast for specific symbols will be used which give power to underworld to overtake them. These people will become enslaved to beast and when the time comes which the sun darkens as sackcloth and stars stop giving their light in those 3 days and nights of darkness they will become possessed becoming as devils and from then on primed for destruction.

Two groups of people: 1) those with the mark of the beast, and 2) God's people (v12) who keep the ten commandments and have the faith of Jesus (as opposed to the faith of Babylon).

This means, at least, that he saw that Philip was able in the name of Jesus Christ to display powers greater than anything he himself was acquainted with: Philip's power was greater by far than Simon's. He therefore came forward as one of the new converts, and was baptized. After his baptism he continued with Philip. The signs which accompanied the introduction of the gospel into this city did not cease, and Simon seeing them "was amazed." The word denoting Simon's amazement at the "signs" wrought by Philip is the same as that used to express how the people of Samaria had been amazed at Simon's sorceries.
